NEWS: To help tech lobbyists, Colorado lawmakers are convening an emergency session to try to pass a bill blocking DAs & watchdog groups from filing lawsuits accusing AI giants of violating consumer protection laws.

The bill is a national template for states aiming to give Big Tech legal immunity.
The Plot To Outlaw AI Lawsuits
State lawmakers are pushing a bill that would prohibit consumers from suing businesses whose AI use potentially violates consumer protection laws.

There's a good case to be made that America's collapse truly began when all the people who lied the country into a war and a financial crisis were not immediately banished from public life forever, but were instead rewarded with more riches, fame, and media influence.

This is a fair question — “banishment” would mean that after being egregiously wrong and dishonest about the most important crises of the era, the pundit would no longer be paid money for their prognostications, amplified by media outlets, or be considered a credible voice by literally anyone.
Since I'm sure plenty of Bluesky users believe that I am on the list of people who deserve to be banished from public life, I have to say that I'm always curious what this rhetorical trope means exactly.

Through what mechanism would a person be banished?

it's like I've been saying to this brick wall for 10 years: democrats are also fascists
The Senate has voted 84-9 to advance a bill that would direct ICE to subject migrants to detention if they were accused (not even necessarily guilty) of theft crimes like shoplifting & empower states to undermine federal immigration policy and even go after individual migrants.

What did Oliver Stone know and when did he know it?

Specifically: When did he find out that Arnon Milchan, the executive producer of his film "JFK", was a major Israeli nuclear spy?

I asked him, and this thread/piece makes his answer highly questionable:
NEW: Journalist @samhusseini.bsky.social questions filmmaker Oliver Stone about his 1991 film "JFK" being executive produced by Arnon Milchan, an Israeli spy who spent years procuring material and technology on behalf of the very nuclear program that JFK was trying to stop

i think "they suck and aren't useful" holds water just fine. perfectly seaworthy critique.

melting an already cooking planet to produce slop and reinforce cycles of disinformation (sucks) and when used for its stated goals is wrong 60% of the time so you have to double check it anyway (not useful)
There are a lot of critiques of LLMs that I agree with but "they suck and aren't useful" doesn't really hold water.

I understand people not using them because of social, economic, and environmental concerns. And I also understand people using them because they can be very useful.

Thoughts?

The Trump administration shipped Ozturk 1400+ miles away to Louisiana, just like Mahmoud Khalil.

Just months ago, rights groups published a report on ICE facilities in Louisiana titled "Inside the Black Hole: Systemic Human Rights Abuses Against Immigrants Detained & Disappeared in Louisiana."
NEW—After a day of uncertainty on where agents took Tufts student Rumeysa Ozturk, she appears to be in a Louisiana facility.

1400+ miles from Somerville, Massachusetts, where she was taken.

A judge ordered to not take her out of state without 48 hour notice. She was detained last night.

“I can buy that badge from a fucking costume store,” says a witness to the “kidnapping” of Rumeysa Ozturk as she was on her way to break her Ramadan fast.
