Trump is building the infrastructure of a police state. People marked as "migrants" are its first and foremost targets.

But anyone who thinks "citizens" will also not end up in these national gulags is not facing reality.
ICE documents reveal plan to hold 80,000 immigrants in warehouses
The Trump administration wants to build seven large-scale deportation hubs to speed up deportations, internal ICE documents show.

everyone should read sharma's home rule and adopt her framework of people as *migrantized* by the world nation-state system, like how people are *criminalized* by state justice systems, to mark them as undesirable and disposable, targets for policing, trafficking, confinement, and liquidation
Yes!

We play the “good migrant” vs “bad migrant” or “good citizen” vs “bad citizen” game at our collective peril.
I don’t mean to sound extreme, but I don’t think we should have torture camps for people with criminal records either.

one of my biggest problems with leftists and libertarians is the tendency of reducing everything in American politics to money; there are some things more powerful than the profit motive

Teaching that ASML is a choke point in global chip manufacturing is always fun
"The EU is completely irrelevant for the global tech industry."

Hey, just a little question: who produces the machines necessary to produce the very computer chips the global tech industry is currently relying on and who currently (unfortunately) holds a total monopoly over them?

very dense cities, allowing other spaces to rewild with small villages, and radical capacities of people to shape their world with extremely complex systems are not things i nominally oppose. but the tyranny of the adventurers? the revealed preferences of the wizards of SV? i will oppose it

The idea I find interesting is that we might not just end up with competition between smaller firms fueled by the GPU glut, but that there might equally be a race to salvage usable structure from frontier models too expensive to run via distilation.

Meaning the only thing that would need to happen for everything to return to a relatively normal state including in the commissions market, etc. would be the collapse of the US AI industry and considering Trump basically pissed off everyone in the world I don't think that outcome is that unlikely

because the USA seem to be the only country in the world that bet on hyperscaler hosted AI models instead of open source AI models usable on smaller systems from smaller datacenters to ordinary PCs and even phones.

I don't think AI will ever fully go away again however when it comes to the hyperscaler focused US-american AI industry with "Open"AI, etc. I actually think it's possible it could go away again

Power $150

someone who is good at space please help me budget this. my dyson sphere is dying
This is a Kerbal Space Program level understanding of the problem. Yeah, at the highest level it could work. It just presupposes a ton of engineering advances and perfection of several technologies that haven’t been demonstrated beyond small scale proof of concept.

For the most part, I respect the critics. I share a lot of their values. I want to see them not make bad arguments.

I see most boosters as rubes or outright enemies on both this issue and more broadly. I want to see them defeated, not persuaded.

the biggest challenge to any future anarchist society will not be the wannabe leaders, but their prospective followers.

many people in this world actively enjoy abdicating personal responsibility for their actions to a leader.

leaders only have power insofar as their followers believe this myth.
