I see a lot of pushback against ‘the GM is a special player who has a different role than the other players’ being framed in anti-authoritarian or anti-colonial language and while there are discussions to be had around those ideas I think the reason we enjoy trad games is for the style of play!

…authority to the players it lessens the burden yes but it also creates a completely different, more writers-room vibe and that is not a *better* way of doing things it’s just a different way of doing things.

There’s also something to be said for the types of games this division of labour creates. I personally do not like playing games where players have narrative authority outside of what their characters do. I like believing in the secondary world, and reacting to it. When the GM cedes some narrative…
