A little about me:

I’m an #Autistic #PhD student in #ReligiousStudies, researching myth & ritual in the Hebrew Bible. I was an attorney for 10yrs, until I hit autistic burnout & decided to build a new career around my special interests in myth & religion. Nice to meet you all!

Yes, I understand that it says “zionists,” but when you put it on a Temple, it suggests that the “zionists” who should “watch out” are…the Jewish people who worship there. My family & childhood neighbors. Is it really so hard to understand why this is threatening?

This was my Temple growing up. They aren’t genociding anyone. But now they’ve been labeled “zionist,” so this will be excused.

This morning, Temple Israel woke up to anti-Semitic threats — a reminder that hate still tries to find a foothold. It won’t find one here. Minneapolis stands with our Jewish neighbors. Hiding behind hate to spread fear aganst any religion or group of people is cowardly and unacceptable in our city.

My mental health is not good rn. I didn’t need this. If you think graffitiing a synagogue with threats is a liberatory action, you need to stop & consider how you got to this point.

You’re fine, I appreciate it. I do need to eat a real lunch when I get home, I can’t just fall asleep.

I respect her as a person, as a woman who’s built a very successful career for herself while maintaining control over her own life & money. I do not care for most of her music.

I got a latte & cookies during my class break. I have ten more minutes of class. Then an hour drive home. Then I can collapse & cry & have a nap. Trying to hold it in a little longer.

I’m getting depression red flags. I can’t eat, I’m lethargic, & I feel like crying over every little thing. I don’t really have time for recovery right now, but I’ll have to make time. And I need to eat. Not eating is probably at least 50% of my current problem.

Before his death, Rabbi Zusha said: “In the coming world, they will not ask me: Why were you not Moses? They will ask me: Why were you not Zusha?”

I just want to study ancient things, but many people are only interested in using ancient texts to support their modern politics.

It was fine, tbh. I tried to be sensitive, & apparently it worked bc no one got angry. We even talked a bit about zionism in the US without issue. I’m glad I pulled this off. It isn’t my field, but as a Jewish religion scholar, I suspect this won’t be the last time I’m asked to teach about I/P.

I’m the TA for a class on Modern Middle Eastern Literature, & today I’ve been asked to give the students a brief overview of the modern history of Palestine. Today of all days, when everyone is already hyper-sensitive. Good luck, me.

I have to do this. I don’t study modern things, but I’m a Jewish religion scholar & apparently I will be asked about this topic no matter what I do, so I may as well learn how.
rachelneedsanap.bsky.social
Yep. When she noticed, the prof said it was “darkly meaningful.” So. Here I go.
rachelneedsanap.bsky.social
I don’t think anything I plan to say is controversial, but people will always find a way to get upset about this topic. It’s the third rail of politics, & it’s especially treacherous territory for Jews & Muslims.

So much energy goes into asking why we exist, instead of how we experience the world.
They study our genes, not our exhaustion.
They debate cures, not accommodations.
It’s easier to dissect us than to listen to us. 2/3

Society spends far more money trying to find the causes of autism than it does helping autistic people live better lives.
We don’t need to be “understood” in a lab.
We need to be understood as human beings, right here, right now. 1/3

I'm academically bright but that's not all there is to life. My ADHD is debilitating when it comes to household tasks and it has nothing to do with 'laziness'. I can wake up and solve a highly complex math problem but if the dishes don't hit that stimulation threshold for me, doing them is torture.

3. What things about ADHD that people don't understand?

I’ve got that ADHD procrastination where I am not doing the things, but I’m also anxious about not doing the things, and am not enjoying avoiding the things.

Also this is not enough to make me just do the things.

Is this purgatory?

I don’t think she’s fighting it. I think she’s taking advantage of her autistic strengths: honesty, logic, straightforwardness, sensitivity to injustice, selflessness, & disregard of hierarchies & social status.
