After slowly chipping away at it over the summer, I reviewed Fantasy Life i (Switch 2) for @skyboxcritics.com. If it were a first-party Nintendo game, people wouldn't shut up about it. Lovely, absolutely PACKED game that's as long/deep as you want it to be: skyboxcritics.com/2025/10/08/f...

I've been so fixated on work (lots of cool stuff coming up...), BF6, and JW Evolution 3 that I'd completely forgotten Pokémon is out next week.

I am fascinated by how ubi has welded the aesthetics of politics in its games and marketing for decades, but always been profoundly cowardly about engaging with them. Political aspartame.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Trump: "I don't know what could be worse than Portland. You don't even have stores anymore. They don't even put glass up. They put plywood on their windows."

We'll just have to go through the same loop when AC Hexe kicks off its marketing campaign, won't we?

C-suites are incredibly panicky and should be completely cut off from the online noise if we're to endure them.

The funniest bit about the cancelled AssCreed is they panic-binned it partly due to the Yasuke backlash before the game came out and went on to become their biggest hit in a while. Had they waited until Shadows' release, it probably would still be moving ahead.

AssCreed in WW2 w/ Indy vibes (Nazi Templars, ancient artifacts!) practically writes and makes itself, but at this point even that would make shots-callers sweat because five grifters would Tweet A Lot.

They didn't like it either, so lol.

It's no coincidence the average online right-wing nutjob gaming diet consists of three games a year which are 1 sports game, Call of Duty 45, and some gacha coomer shit. Perfectly comforting entertainment with nothing to say. Why would you try to cater to them with anything else? Not your target.
radioactivejawa.bsky.social
It's so funny how huge entertainment companies continue to misread the room and think chuds and conservative normies actually like spending money on any art/culture and will suddenly start praising their stuff. Broke progressives are the ones willing to put money down, you idiots!

Some have said about Assassin's Creed games that "DEI kills art" but this might be a case where "anti-DEI" helped kill art.

Much more about the game and the context of the decision at the link.

it’s a real shame that the obsession with “canon” and wikipedia-ification of fiction has people playing choice-based games like they’re a problem to be solved rather than a series of choices you have to stand by.
