An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

You would not believe how many stories like this have been popping up over the last ~5 years

Not just full games cancelled—entire characters and plot lines removed or changed, leaving less time for making the *rest of the game better*, to try avoiding a small and malicious contingent of voices.

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Gee, Edelgard, how come you get to have 3 lesbian advisors?

Digital art of Hera (transfem Hubert), Monica, and Freyja (transfem Ferdinand) drawn in a simple style with a pixel brush. They're all dressed in their Hopes outfits, and colored with soft oranges, orchids, and an off-white. The background is a cool pastel pink with darker pink shadows beneath the figures.

Hera shyly holds out her cape while bending her knee, her other arm tucked behind her. Monica joyfully holds her hands out to her sides. Freyja confidently holds a hand on her hip and the other to her face while winking. Sweat drops, flowers, and sparkles accompany each of them, respectively.

Another study showing links between COVID and cancer.

“The findings underscore the importance of understanding the interplay between viral infections and cancer development, particularly in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic.”

I'm awful at puns. Does anyone want to Halloweenify my name for me?

Okay so let me get this right

1) OpenAI has to go public before the end of the year or they have to pay back their investors and face legal charges from several US states
2) There's only enough venture capital left to keep the economy running for another year and a half

Mutual aid and community care are the most effective things you can do right now. Seriously. Sharing other people's fundraisers, making sure people have food and transportation, protecting your immigrant and racialized and trans neighbors, wearing a mask.

The outstanding covers just keep coming this season. Also, this is Marrowmont year zero? Yes please! It's already sitting in my inbox because I'm a subscriber, and that feels luxurious. Looking forward to sinking my teeth in

Rise in Glorious Raiment, the final historical tale of Hulderotica Year One, is here. Come meet Mercy, and see how Marrowmont began from a Maiden's POV.

Cover image of a book/short story called "Rise in Glorious Raiment", written by Kaya Skovdatter. At the bottom of the background is a woman with long flowing hair and a loose dress, both glowing a luminous white. Behind her are several staggered layers of ascending, angled mountain slopes, purple closer and shifting into a purple-grey as they vanish into the distance. In the sky is a flock of glowing white birds of indeterminate species, spread all across the image. The title is overlaid against the cover image, its text matte white.

Something to remember this #BannedBooksWeek: the ruling class banning your books because your writing is subversive & readers boycotting your work because you're a transphobic b*tch are not situations with moral equivalency.

Read something meaningful this week.

Going to try making soda bread tomorrow. My gastroparesis limits the types of enrichments I can use, so I settled on cashews & crystalized ginger.

The recipe calls for buttermilk, but both RR crossings in town are closed rn, & I'm not in the mood to take 15-mile detour to a place 5 blocks away.

We like to root for the underdogs, right? Well, here's a bundle of books that haven't received the attention they deserve.

It includes the 4th book in my Lost Humanity series, Predators! If you never got to continue past Bridges, this is your chance!

itch.io/b/3305/under...
Graphic that reads "Itch.io Under-Rated Bundle, Oct 9th-13th, Bringing attention to the best books you've never heard of." Text is brown on an off-white background with five yellow stars bordering it above and below. Around the text box are the following book covers: Predators by H.S. Kallinger, Zinmages by M.C. Burnell, The Spider's Friend by M.C. Burnell, Disappearance and Other Short Stories by PD Loupee, Memories of Sorcery and Sand by Joanna Maciejewska, Kranlian Rendezvous by Simon Wolfe, The Shadow of Arcadia by Alan K. Dell, Devil Deal by Janina Franck, The God Sun by Alan K. Dell, Water's Edge by Ellie Lieberman, The Third People by Lee Burton, The Crimson Knight by Zeta K. Pierce, The Lion by Lee Burton, Adventures In GameWorld : Game Start by Robert Rumery, All Through the House and Other Tales from a Random Place by Joachim Heijndermans, Soft Reboot by Joachim Heijndermans, Blue by Niranjan, Wizard's Debt by Niranjan, Ambushed by Natasha O'Connor, At First Belonging by Rob MacWolf, and Demon Hunters Inc : The Infestation by Robert Rumery. Image of a redwood forest at night containing shadowy shapes with glowing eyes in the blue spaces between trees. H.S. Kallinger is written in green at the bottom. Title text, Predators, is a gradient of gray fading into blood red over the thin trees. The top reads 'Book Four of the Lost Humanity series' in white text.

Everybody deserves a lawyer who takes their oath to their clients very seriously and their oath to the court very sarcastically.

A fantasy novel with dystopian elements that puts autistic and queer characters with unconventional traits at the centre of a story. An exploration of the soul and its multiple traits that make us humans.

It's not really arbitrary though, because it's deliberately classist.

While Democrats are on their knees licking the boots of pedophile with a God complex begging him not to steal from the social security you've paid into your whole life to pay off his billionaire BFFs, radical leftists are the ones standing tall, showing you that It does NOT have to be this way.
raeleemaycarpenter.bsky.social
Radical leftists are the ones who ask why, if FEMA runs out of funds 6 months into the year & we can't afford mental health services for veterans with PTSD, do we have TRILLIONS to pour into forever wars that accomplish nothing but make obscenely rich war profiteeers even richer.
raeleemaycarpenter.bsky.social
When your health insurance company decides it's only going to cover the first 30-minutes of surgical anesthesia, radical leftists are the ones who publicly shame them until that decision is reversed.

Radical leftists are the ones building mask blocs & gerry-rigging air purifiers so their immune-compromised & immunosuppressed neighbors don't die of COVID.

They are the artists dreaming into being worlds where everyone has enough.
