my response when discovering in 2020 that famed actress Gong Li (family-name Gong, first-name Li) had wed Jean-Michel Jarre:
"Marry in haste, repent as Li Jarre."

Fleur Jaeggy: swan fan.

Fleur Jaeggy has just popped up in the bookies' top dozen candidates for the Nobel Literature prize, announced this afternoon.
85yo Italophone Swiss, widow of Calasso, pal of Bachmann.
"Her work sees little point in exploring happiness, productivity, or self-understanding. Her focus is the void."

Most historians would point out that the problem with Weimar Germany wasn’t an overabundance of anti-fascists.

"Antifa has been around in various iterations for almost 100 years in some instances, going back to the Weimar Republic in Germany."

following the deaths of Mark E Smith (2017) and MF DOOM (2020) the "greatest" now is probably 40yo Stromae (who writes only in French). 👇.
my favourite? probably Paul Waaktaar-Savoy (English) or Mahmood (Italian), with Joost Klein (mainly Dutch) not far behind.

saw John Carpenter's THE WARD (2010) for first time in cinema this evening at @filmmuseum.bsky.social, Vienna (35mm). As it's likely to prove his final film, I wondered who the final credited acter would turn out to be. And, gorblimey moses, it's...

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.

The main problem with TRON ARES is that it doesn’t have a Bruce Boxleitner in it
raijimmaru.bsky.social
it is odd how TRON, a somewhat embarrassing and obscure footnote in cinema history for nearly three decades (with only a very tiny cult following), has in the last 15 years become This Big Thing.

TRON: ARES - I had no idea this silly 1982 sci-fi movie would become a franchise. Made with real love for the original, this is the best TRON so far. More of a sequel to TRON than LEGACY, it continues the story in a satisfying way. Well made big-budget IMAX entertainment worth seeing in the theater.

Likewise, there's a surprise bit of music that turns up shortly after the 7-minute mark in this 1972 animated sequel to The Wizard Of Oz.

after a week in the UK (mainly in areas where Reform are likely to do very well) I'm even more convinced the only way Labour can avert this disaster is to ditch the useless Starmer and replace him with Andy Burnham.

The YouGov poll says Reform would win an election.

But not in Salford.

I guess that's something... 🤷🏼‍♂️
