These "quiet neighbourhood" councillors demand their lifestyles (low density, car infrastructure) be subsidized by more productive areas of the city, starving us of funds for social programs that would address our biggest issues, then complain about the traffic they create in our neighbourhoods.
"We are talking about the quality of life of people in quiet residential neighbourhoods, who chose to live in these neighbourhoods because they are quiet. They did not choose to live in them because of commercial activity," explains Holyday.

I wanted to compare what I saw on Seattle's Line 1 LRT with Toronto's Finch LRT.

In Seattle, you can see left turning cars waiting while fast-moving transit gets priority. Help TTCriders make it happen in Toronto: www.ttcriders.ca/greenlight

Look at this image (and thread - use the translate service).

This one reads along the lines of:

"..Comet C/2025 A6 (Lemmon) without cleaning.

In just 15 minutes of acquisition, we counted 1,659 satellite trails (about 400 individual ones).

Words cannot describe the pollution of near space."

🔭

Notice Mamdani charmed Trump on live TV without backing down on any stances. He didn't water himself down, he didn't even take back calling Trump a fascist. Moderates would say butter him up, or try to appear more right-wing. Voters can see through that—and evidently so does he!

Nostalgia about neighbourhood retail is not a strategy — the City's heavily compromised decision on neighbourhood retail may result in no new neighbourhood retail, writes senior editor @johnlorinc.bsky.social.

Nostalgia about neighbourhood retail is not a strategy - Spacing Toronto
I have lived for many years less than 30 metres from what was once one of Toronto’s storied corner stores — a green grocer known locally as “Dom’s” — for the owner, Domenico Cozzi. He and his wife Ros...

This is one of the purest encapsulations I've seen recently of someone who sees a city not as a destination but as something through which to drive. Imagine if there were popular stores? The horror
Councillor Shan moves to exclude three streets in his ward. He worries the retail spaces created won't just be small shops selling ice cream to locals, but things like "beef patties that are so popular that people from the 905 will come to get it." That'll just add to traffic problems, he says.

Thanks to everyone who participated but it turns out that none of you were able to imagine the greatest horror: a successful small business with beef patties.

Councillor Myers: "Just so I have it clear, the city is paying $1.5 billion for these GO Train stations. Who's going to own these assets when they're complete?"

The province, says staff.

Myers: "So the City of Toronto has paid $1.5 billion to build assets for the province."

Staff confirm, yes.

Except Budget 2025 proposes cutting funding from the Canada Public Transit Fund towards a more generalized fund, leaving less money on the table for important transit projects and state-of-good-repair 👎

This a step backwards for faster commutes and achieving our climate goals. Not good!

To build Canada strong, we’re building strong communities.

Budget 2025 invests more than $50 billion in new roads, transit, hospitals, colleges, and universities — to empower you with faster commutes, better services, and more opportunities.

In Jane Jacobs’s old neighborhood, more heritage rules will mean more exclusion and gentrification.

We know how the story ends. It shouldn’t be allowed to happen again.

Will heritage stop housing development in the Annex?
If a new heritage district is created, it should acknowledge the tradeoffs and explicitly define how the area will change

The Ford government already eliminated rent control for buildings built after 2018. They are now taking steps to eliminate rent control in Ontario altogether. This is shameful and disgusting given the affordability crisis that so many people are facing.

I can’t believe that as recently as a few months ago, the consensus Democratic Party position, even on the left, was that you couldn’t call to ‘abolish ICE.’

Good luck to the Democratic candidates who run in 2028 while opposing the abolition of ICE.
