If the calves are born males, they are shoved into tiny crates to restrict the movement of their muscles. This cruel practice keeps the young calves’ muscles from developing and toughening before they are slaughtered and their body parts sold as “veal.” Calves may also be killed and discarded, raised and slaughtered for meat, exported to other locations, or used for labor. Thankfully, plenty of plant-based milk options are available that do not involve the torture and suffering of animals.
