We are saddened by the passing of Graeme Baird, a visionary programmer who, alongside Ian Oliver and Andy Onions, co-founded Realtime Games Software. While the 16-bit era is often credited for the 3D revolution, it was Graeme, working with Ian, who brought Starglider to the 8-bit generation. (1/4)

Love to see the Sedgwick County Zoo putting out a good explainer on why GenAI slop videos of animals are a problem & how to identify them! It’s succinct, easy to read, and doesn’t shame people for not knowing better. A+ useful link to share with family and friends.

Some gaming history for your Thanksgiving week.

In the early 1990s, programmers writing online games for BBSes faced a LOT of constraints, from slow modems to extremely limited sound and graphics.

How did they work around those limitations?

So tired of constantly being sent Aaron Blaise's work because of what I draw. Having to tell these well meaning people that I can't support his art because he's a giant asshole. Then inevitably having to explain why over and over despite not wanting to. Even shitty people can make beautiful art.

Morio Kishimoto, director of Team Sonic, was an NMK alumni. He worked on a lot of shmups there, including Gunnail, Macross, Rapid Hero, and Desert War.

Desert War was NMK's last video game, and sometime after Kishimoto went to Sammy. Guess who Sammy merged with years later?

Backed by the Heritage Foundation and Big Tech, KOSA will force everyone to upload their ID to access the internet. In an age when Palantir has direct ties to ICE, where technofascists are in power and want to eliminate and censor everything, we CANNOT allow KOSA to pass.

It NEEDS mass pushback.
🚨‼️As of yesterday KOSA is at 64 cosponsors with @vanhollen.senate.gov + @kim.senate.gov - who claim to support LGTBQ+ rights but are clearly okay with supporting legislation that’ll censor us off the internet- newly signed on.
