I keep waiting for the powers that be in media to grasp the concept of bad faith, realize how often "restore trust in news" and similar statements mean "stop doing journalism, lie more in ways I like," come from people ideologically committed to destroying trust in news, and can never be satisfied.

I too am keen to "restore trust in news" by turning a major broadcast network into a 24/7 slurry of right wing culture war propaganda and engagement trolling

Bari Weiss introduced herself to CBS News staff today on the network's 9AM call, saying she wants to "win," which requires restoring trust to CBS. She also said she was excited for staff to get to know the Free Press, and ended her remarks by saying: "Let's do the fucking news."

i'm reminded of this bit a lot these days
"The Encyclopedia Galactica defines a robot as a mechanical apparatus designed to do the work of a man. The marketing division of the Sirius Cybernetics Corporation defines a robot as "Your Plastic Pal Who's Fun to Be With. The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy defines the marketing devision of the Sirius Cybernetic Corporation as "a bunch of mindless jerks who'll be the first against the wall when the revolution comes."

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy

it should be noted that later in the series the entry is updated to add that they were, in fact, the first against the wall when the revolution came

There are those who feel very savvy for not understanding that a distracting thing can also be dangerous. And there are those who think they finally have found the one magic thing that's going to bring him down. For real this time. Certainly.

When the Nazis start whistling but you're annoyed by the people complaining about the Nazis maybe it's time to reflect on what kind of bar you're running? I'm just selling the beer is not a convincing answer BTW

Elon Musk & Trump Crypto Czar David Sacks—who co-authored the “Diversity Myth” w/ Peter Thiel—take aim at Wikipedia. Sacks calls Wikipedia “hopelessly biased,” & Musk says that “We are building Grokipedia XAI,” which he says will be a “massive improvement over Wikipedia.” 1/ x.com/elonmusk/sta...

The language of non-consent around AI is really telling. "It's too late to be scared." "It's here whether we want it or not." "You'll have to learn to work with it." "You can't fight the inevitable."

All just variations of "you're not allowed to say no." Creepy technology made by creepy people.

If you feel like you're getting smacked in the face with huge, hostile carp every fucking day, it's because you are.

Always read Sarah Kendzior. (Give her money if you can, she's the primary breadwinner of her family.)
An invasive carp became president. He spawned a sea of invasive carp and hired invasive carp to man the Prevention of Invasive Carp Department. He announced his plans on Invasive Carp TV while holding the Project Invasive Carp guide in his fin.

In 2025, the Savvy Man asked, "Who could have seen INVASIVE CARP coming?" and chuckled with feigned chagrin. A flying carp smacked the Savvy Man in the face, and he thanked it for Reaching Across the Aisle.
