My Oscar-qualifying sapphic short film, "AND THEN" is now available to watch! Set in Tokyo — a story of insomnia, longing, and two women who quietly fall into each other. AND THEN is a poetic exploration of connection when sleep won’t come and love arrives instead.

Lately been hearing but also reading more news about the rise of misogyny in school, so out of curiosity I looked up some forums to read some opinions on it and some of the responses are really worrying.

"concept artists can experiment with AI to make their lives easi-"

wrong

I smack you with Claire Hummel's immaculate and detailed understanding of costume design, which she got by studying historical references, which made her strong, which you will not become by relying on AI

Originality aside - When generative AI is used without sources, attribution, or cultural context, issues emerge. Cultural flattening. Loss of lineage and meaning. Value taken from communities without recognition. Feedback loop of erasure. Why do people pretend “it’s complicated”?

Recently discovered I am 1/4 Teochew Chinese, 1/4 Hainan Chinese (I have Island heritage!), and 1/2 Vietnamese. So that’s pretty neat.

My cousin told me I got my niece her first jelly cat for Christmas last year, and that she’s been collecting them ever since, I am frantically searching for jelly cats online now and look at this lad 😭 (sadly he’s out of stock)

How I dress when I’m directing VS how I dress when I’m doing cinematography.

What gets me distracted in both cases: cute animals

I think about this too often. But it also makes me determined to have a voice and tell the stories of our communities. We exist and our stories matter.

I just checked out the trailer for this, and it looks INCREDIBLE.
“The Stringer” is on Netflix, an investigative documentary. This is my first Netflix/Sundance credit, with Additional Cinematography!

“A photo editor’s 52-year-old secret sparks a two-year investigation into one of the Vietnam War’s most famous images.”

It’s simply not possible to overstate how important NCAR is to US and world science. We need to fight this with everything we’ve got.

Is it tough doing a masters in film, graduating, and entering the industry the way it is now? An industry that was always already favouring white men? Yes, but I'm staying positive and finding ways to do my own thing! There's no point in being defeatest, and I truly love this medium of making movies

Stills from my upcoming feature doc - an ethnic Chinese woman’s return to Đà Nẵng, Vietnam, 45 years after the American War. A contemplative journey into a multi-generational diaspora story: first displaced by the Chinese Civil War, then by the War in Vietnam - memory - and the fragility of home.

10/10. This needs to be a part of your holiday rotation.

I love films about found family and character development through learning about different perspectives via time spent together, real human interaction, and realisations, etc. This was so wholesome and bittersweet and had depth. The flavour!

I know it’s a bit contradictory to say this on here but I’m grateful to have lived in a time before social media and today’s technology.

Last month in London.

As a Vietnamese filmmaker it meant a lot to be a part of this story, the film brings attention to voices and experiences that have historically been marginalized in narratives about the Vietnam War.
