If theology is the study of the nature of God and religious belief as one definition states, we should all be able to do that a little. But it begins by seeing that the nature of God is love, not power, something that Catholic integralists don’t seem to understand.

More than anything it shows your teen how much you care and that she (that’s right, isn’t it) can count on you. Blessings.

Folks, the oath of enlisted people and officers are two different oaths. The officer's oath does not include the stuff about the president.
wheystandard.bsky.social
Again, the oath has mentioned obeying orders of the President since 1789. Here it is as established by Congress in 1962, in Public Law 87-751 (codified then in 10 USC 501, codified after 1968 in 10 USC 502):
Public Law 87-751
October 5, 1962
AN ACT
(H. R. 218]
To provide that individuals enlisted into the Armed Forces of the United States shall take an oath to support and defend the Constitution of the United States.
Armed Forces.
Enlistment oath.
70A Stat. 17.
National Guard.
70A Stat. 602.
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That section 501 of title 10, United States Code, is amended as follows:
"$ 501. Enlistment oath: who may administer
"Each person enlisting in an armed force shall take the following oath:
-→ do solemnly swear (or affirm) that
I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, accorang to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice.

This is capitulation. It is not the "Department of War." If CNN concedes on this point, they'll concede on any point.

Complete nonsense from Secretary Rubio.

The Trump administration is engaged in lawless, premeditated killings without any congressional authorization.

Schiff-Kaine resolution moves to stop that lawless killing.

The resolution would not affect authority to defend against real armed attacks.
The Schiff-Kaine resolution is up for a vote in the Senate today.

This resolution aims to strip President Trump of his constitutional authority to protect Americans by authorizing military strikes against narco-terrorists, the Houthis, and other Iranian proxies. This is dangerous — it puts our children, citizens, soldiers, and allies at risk.

Our authoritarianism is run on clichés borrowed from the Eastern Europe of twenty years ago. Paid protestors, disloyal cities, evil Soros, vast conspiracies — it was all tiresome then and there, and now it’s pathetic.

JB Pritzker and Gavin Newsom are doing something new and important: They understand Stephen Miller's theory of fascist power politics, and they've developed a theory on how to combat it. More Dems need to reckon with Miller's understanding of the moment.

New from me:

Inside Stephen Miller’s Secret Plan to Normalize Trump’s Dictator Rule
He wants to supercharge searing civil tensions to get low-information voters to embrace their inner authoritarian. Exactly two Democrats appear to fully grasp this.

We, the American people, must stand up for freedom--to use our constitutionally-protected rights to ensure we have a Federal government that does what it "ought" rather than the current malevolent one that does what it "likes." It's up to us, "We the people" to do what is right, starting now. 6/6

I was present at that Mass and when I heard these words I thought first of our individual freedoms and our tendency to pursue wealth, power, and pleasure rather than loving our neighbor and the common good. While that remains true, I realize this applies to our government too, especially today. 2/6

The President is asserting a license to kill outside of the law.

Congress needs to push back.

Today, Senator Kaine and I will force the Senate to vote on the administration’s decision to blow up ships in the Caribbean.

If a president can unilaterally put people or groups on a list and kill them, there is no meaningful limit to his use of force.
