This is "everyone is 12" but for history. You cannot say one field of history is more important than another and be an adult. That's a child's logic, and ignorant children should be taught but not listened to as experts. It is too bad this is an adult man, but still, he's 12.

look at how little effort it takes for someone on the conservative grievance circuit to destroy a life

millions of college kids have half assed an assignment at the last minute, you eat the F and move on

but the effort to push trans people out of public life will use whatever it can get
Worth noting that the student admits that she just threw the thing together in 30 minutes without reading the paper she was supposed to be responding to.

That's every medical diagnosis; every hospital visit; every prescription; every lab test; every surgery; every x-ray; EVERYTHING."

The CBS investigation portrays a modern concentration camp, similar to the Soviet GULAG (like CECOT, an acronym): sadistic guards, 24 hour lighting, isolation cells.
Americans once opposed this inhumane system.
The Trump administration sent innocent people there to suffer.

This thread, and the leaked CBS documentary, puts Bari Weiss's post-hoc excuses to the lie. It's a thoroughly researched piece on CECOT atrocities, with on-screen interviews of the torture victims, statements from the administration, and footage from inside the concentration camp.
This has been made available, so for purposes of commenting on Bari Weiss's decision to spike the story, here's a live-post of that segment.

It begins with a "you may recall" summary of the deportation to el Salvador. Describes the admin's claim that it could deport the men without due process

one of our biggest problems is we spent decades coddling straight white male conservatives. we took their dumb as fuck ideas seriously, even though history, logic and science showed theyre completely unworkable. and now we're stuck with a bunch of dumbasses who have been coddled for too long

They're Cassandras who smelled the fascism all over Trump. trib.al/p6YSRah

From janitors and Wall Street bankers, to lawyers and food delivery drivers. Much has been made of the cross-class nature of Trump’s strongest support. That the same is true of his strongest opposition is far less discussed.

Just so I'm clear on this, computer memory has tripled in price because a bunch of it that hasn't been produced yet has been ordered to populate GPUs that aren't installed in data centers that aren't built yet in order to service a demand that doesn't exist to make profits that don't happen.

you can't indulge them because its clear their demands have no limit. and at the end of the day i don't feel i'm personally responsible for the fact that, say, a red-state family cannot responsibly deal with the unattractiveness of its lifestyle to their children

Tyson is shutting down its Lexington, Nebraska plant in January 2026. That’s 3,200 workers gone in one shot, the largest plant shutdown in company history.

Blame Trump’s tariff chaos and the lowest cattle inventories in decades. Tariffs jack up costs. Supply shrinks. Plants close. Towns hollow out.

i want to be clear about this: worker’s rights also includes the right to be free from racist or sexist or gendered abuse at your job.

Again, I don't need to agree with that to agree with Trans rights and we need to spend less time concerned with "what do people think about gender" and more time concerned with "what do people think about dignity, freedom, and decency"

I am happy to pay $30 a year for USPS Prime, which delivers mail daily to my home
The USPS posting a NINE BILLION DOLLAR LOSS!!! sounds terrible. Certainly worse than if you said "USPS costs thirty dollars per person per year" even though that means the same thing and more accurately describes a government service

Instead, these confected scandals are part of the same strategy these evil people have pursued for years: trying to find ways to get a small number of people to exercise informal power against disfavoured groups--because they lack the state capacity or public support to do worse.

During the Turkey Trot yesterday the topic of making Thanksgiving themed tutus came up and I caught myself before I said “we could go to JoAnns.” This video had the best timing. And I have a year to figure out where to buy the tulle.

also if I can Stoicism post just a bit: this is also what memento mori is for. you are going to die someday - do you really imagine than one of your regrets will be that you didn't organize more of your life around what random Redditors think is gay?

bsky.app/profile/maxk...
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

By framing what should be a reputation and legacy destroying (and likely criminal investigation in inciting) revelation an obstacle to overcome, it allows people who would like to ignore the whole thing do so, not as part of a grotesque moral failure, but as a part of a grand redemptive triumph.
