I think it's a nice idea to end the year with a reread of a book you love. Even if you didn't read as much as you wanted, or read a lot of books you ended up not liking, it reminds you of why you are a reader in the first place. Takes you back to your roots, so to say.

Remember, in this day and age, reading is like an alternative lifestyle, a source of arrogance and moral superiority 😇😉🙃

Never give up hope that, one day, you will pull a book from a bookshelf and that secret door will finally open for you.

It still amazes me that, as an adult, you can just have nachos for dinner.

Like, no one even comes to scold you about it.

You can just do it.

I have discovered that point where I give absolutely zero fucks if people know I read romances and what is derogatorily described as "chick lit" for pleasure.

My entire working life is reading and writing about some of the darkest moments in our past, I will absolutely enjoy my off time.

I don't know who needs to hear this, but you don't need to justify your reading preferences and choices to anyone. Audiobooks count as reading. Also, you don't have to finish books you don't enjoy. Don't read to impress, read for yourself. Life's too short, love yourself, ok?

How to avoid life
Rise from your desk. Walk to the bookshop. Browse for an hour or two. Pick up a book. Start reading.

At the end of the day, don’t we all just want to pull a book from a bookshelf and find that it reveals a hidden room?

Proof your public library loves you: they leave you alone while you read, they don’t mind when you bring your kids over, and they’ll let you borrow any of their books, even the hardcovers

Here's your daily reminder that bookstores keep the love of reading alive — but they also keep neighborhoods beautiful. They are places to gather, to celebrate stories, to find community.

Please do your holiday shopping at your local independent bookstore, if you are lucky enough to still have one.

I don't have an inner child. I have an inner teenager who reads inappropriate stuff, judges everyone, and refuses to go to sleep before finishing that book!
