The oldest tradition in hockey is letting a general manager make franchise-defining decisions with one foot out the door.

It’s time to bring in the reinforcements Steve. This team is good enough and has earned it with their play

Some other NHL team:

"Ok we are going to trade our best player and captain and it's going to happen this week"
Watching the Flames flounder in moving players is always funny.

"We play the least entertaining brand of hockey you've ever seen, we are in last place and haven't made the playoffs in three years, but we like our group and don't want to make any moves unless it's an obvious overpayment to us."

I hope JT Miller is traded to a third team that then also decides to blow it up

You are the GM of a historically bad team and franchise. You have been GM for years.

You are fired and the team immediately skyrockets to being a playoff team.

It must be awful.
I can't imagine being Kevyn Adams right now.

With Hronek on the market, he instantly displaces Rasmus Andersson as the most valuable defender available on the trade market.

Knowing that the Canucks will actually make trades puts his value a little bit higher still.

Do NHL general managers know they can make trades whenever they want? You don't have to declare anything in public first, you can just do it.

I think it would be good for Jason Robertson to get out of Dallas

A Tale of Two Cities:

In Calgary, they refuse to use the terminology of a rebuild because they aren't doing one and think it's embarrassing.

In Vancouver, they readily adopt the terminology of rebuilding as cover for not rebuilding because they aren't doing one and think it's embarrassing.

My guess is he's using the word Rebuild as cover for not doing a rebuild.

Rebuilds are the new hotness.
Just had quite the chat with Jim Rutherford about the course of the Canucks' rebuild. Column coming shortly...

this is one of the nicest goals you will have ever see

incredible skill on display here
"If that's not a highlight reel goal I don't know what is"
Minnesota's Abbey Murphy beats her defender with a lacrosse move, then slides it over for Bella Fanale to score

Is Trevor Zegras an 11 million dollar player?

The Hurricanes should be all in on Blake Coleman w/ retention

it would be a huge mistake for the Sabres to re-sign Tuch

Smart for the Fenway Group to get out of the NHL right now

The Flames and LA should do a deal of Danault + Conditional 1st for Kadri at 1.5 retained as the framework.

If Calgary sees Parekh as a long term, high value commitment going forward, turning Kadri's 3yr term for Danault's 2yr term gives the flames an extra $7m in cap to work with on that deal.

if you're an NHL GM, you gotta be calling Jarmo and Alvin right now and don't stop until they pick up the phone
December 15, 2025 at 7:45 PM
LOL Did Kevyn Adams get fired for not landing Quinn Hughes?
It’s official - Kevyn Adams is out, Jarmo Kekäläinen named the new Sabres general manager

The larger point here is that this is a tremendous opportunity for the Canucks to continue to sell of valuable roster components for the next three seasons and trading the non-draft-pick returns for even more draft picks over the next two seasons.

For Example, play Rossi 21 mins a night and retain
This Vancouver rebuild is over before it starts if it hinges on these players being Canucks 3 years from now.

The Canucks should flip Rossi and the prospects over the next two years after playing them in value beneficial scenarios
