Also, I work in a field where an arts or humanities degree is infinitely more useful than a STEM one. I’ve worked in organisations full of scientists and engineers for decades and they really, really need people like me to do a lot of important stuff that they’re really fucking bad at.

Also. It always rankles that THEY got to study “pointless” shit like the CLASSICS and now want to pull the ladder up so the bloody little poor people don’t get to better themselves and their lives with the enrichment education such as that brings. Bastards

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

I did have incredible hair as a small child. I look at photos now and I’m in awe. I wish it was still as thick as that!

I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing either. I also haven’t seen Back To The Future.

My boyfriend, who is 57 years old, has never seen a James Bond film.

Inspired by a post I just saw in which someone admitted they hadn’t seen a single episode of Friends nor the film Love Actually… what cultural hole do you have that’s a bit weird for your generation?

I’ll go first: I haven’t seen Dirty Dancing.

Thank you - I’m all right. It’s hard but I’m with my mum and brother and we’ve been reminiscing a lot which has been nice. I’ve been looking at old photo albums today, hence the childhood pic.

Funny when you see pictures of yourself as a kid that are very on-brand. For example, look at my painting in this one.

Agreed. The food is miles more difficult to change than the booze IMO.

We can cross any clockwork will-making steampunk automata off the list

I just asked my mum how my dad’s will was arranged and by whom (as there’s no solicitor’s details on the paperwork) and she said “I remember we did our wills in a room with a person”. Great, thanks Mum, that narrows it right down.

Imagine being 60 & having a beef with someone you met when she was 11 though

Imagine being THAT SUCCESSFUL and THAT BITTER tho

It’s astonishing, isn’t it? Not least because the youngster has been incredibly gracious and reasonable on the subject, while the woman approaching state pension age comes across like a bitchy teenage school bully who got passed over for Head Girl

OMG! Even weirder considering it’s about five years old!

Thanks so much for all your kind words re. my dad. As some of you have said, he was incredibly cool in his youth. Here’s him in Paris (his favourite place) in 1962. It was on this road trip that his tent was surrounded by armed police who thought he might have attempted to assassinate de Gaulle.

My dad - jazz lover, DIY genius, sportsman, Spurs fan, whisky collector and general bon viveur - died yesterday at his care home, aged 83. He was in the advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease and he’d just had enough. He was a lovely, lovely man and a brilliant dad, and I will miss him very much.

I’ve noticed that although there are lots of stray dogs and cats, none of them really look thin. I assume this is why.

Today’s odd moment from Albania: driving past a goat raiding a bin

Yes, we’ve seen posters for that. Also Fawlty Towers meets Allo Allo, despite the fact that one’s set in the 1940s and one isn’t.
