It's Book Quote Wednesday and this week's word is STRONG! In Cursed Under London, Nell the apothecary finds that helping her friends when they wind up in danger is a great way to test the potency of her latest potion (WAY too strong for sale) #BookQW Buying link: farragobooks.com/book/cursed-...
Quote from Cursed Under London. Quote reads: ‘Er, me and Amber put good time and effort into saving you eggs,’ called Nell, stepping out from the warehouse. ‘You would have got stabbed and kidnapped or drowned in the Thames if not for our selfless actions, at no inconsiderable risk to our own safety. A little thankfulness wouldn’t go amiss, since we’re clearly getting no other reward for our bravery.’
‘You got to test your new euphoria potion,’ argued Fang, ‘and Amber’s having a great time.’
He indicated to the little dragon as she waddled slowly along, her tail drooped, her eyes like saucers.
‘Queeeeeeen of the dragons,’ she mumbled, happily, ‘of allllllll I survey. Tremble, puny humans.’
‘Yes, yes,’ Fang told her gently, scooping her up into his arms so she could do no damage to herself, ‘you’re a mighty ferocious beast’.
‘I shall build a royal nest from your skulllllllllls’.
‘Yeah,’ sighed Nell, ‘I can’t sell it at this concentration, can I? It’s way too strong.’
‘I’d buy it,’ Lazare admitted.

In honor of Edgar Allan Poe's 176th deathday, here are a few of my recent pieces inspired by Poe's works 🫀
Illustration by Abigail Larson depicting a scene from Edgar Allan Poe's poem "Annabel Lee". Two lovers embrace at the edge of the sea, water splashes around them and the surrounding rocks. A full moon shines over them, and storm clouds loom.

Rats have swarmed around him, chewing the ropes that hold him down. This illustration is featured in "Sticker Jigsaw: The Edgar Allan Poe Collection" for Macmillan Books. Illustration by Abigail Larson for Macmillan's "Edgar Allan Poe Sticker Jigsaw" book. The illustration is a scene from Edgar Allan Poe's poem, "The Raven". The narrator is at the center of the image looking up at at raven perched above an open doorway. Behind the narrator is a tall window with red curtains, and the ghost of Lenore lurks nearby. A black cat is watching the scene from the lower right corner.

(As someone who actually has a high st retail job, 1 of the best things any gvt can do for us - besides putting the online retail genie back in the bottle somehow - is curbing rents from retail unit landlords, & legislation to make them give shops they're booting out for a higher bidder more notice)

Highland cattle are famous for their ability to "disco nap". Normally these brief, efficient sleeps will last between three and twenty minutes, deploying a variety of objects as pillows, including moorland boulders, cars or any particularly large dog or sheep who happens to be nearby.
A highland cow having a little nap on a boulder on Dartmoor (ok, it was actually scratching its head)

Oh, they still want the Classics (as long as they were written by white men who were either straight or they can fiercely pretend were straight) to exist preserved in aspic, they don't want us to actually make anything now.

Well, of COURSE keith made it about 15 minute cities within a few stanzas, and what is this utopia where the state just sends you everything you'll ever need?

I wish our various governments could be proud of and support the industries we actually have, instead of what Reg down the bowls club who retired in the 90s reckons it probably should be

I feel like we're mentioning this about once a week as the gvt, shadow gvt & Unofficial Shadow Gvt all stick their fingers in their ears & go 'AH LA LA LA LA WE ARE A PROUD COUNTRY OF HOARY HANDED FISHERMEN, METAL BASHERS AND CYBER GUYS AND NOTHING ELSE'

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

Marmaduke, six, is reported to have been the subject of near constant vocal stimming by Ellie Mulligan, 32. In response, Marmaduke concealed a microphone within his floofy orange trousers, and he is now rich beyond his wildest dreams.

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

You know who doesn't integrate? People like Robert Jenrick. You think he works out at the local leisure centre? Goes to the Tuesday night pub quiz? You think his golf club lets anyone play? Or his private members' clubs let anyone in? He puts the ick in prick
