Congresswoman Lateefah Simon

Proudly Representing California's 12th Congressional District.
The Trump Administration is betraying the American people, provoking foreign wars while people starve and sleep on our streets.

Make no mistake - this is a confession of values.

Before politics, I spent decades working with young people. It’s how I got to know Coach Beam. His life's work was not to save Oakland’s children, it was to remind them that they were never lost.

To Cindi, Monica and Sonjha: thank you for sharing him with us.

Rest easy, Faithful Servant.

The Trump Adminstration just froze millions of dollars for for child care subsidies, social services and cash support for low-income families in states with Democratic leaders.

People are struggling to put food on the table. They can't afford their prescriptions. But somehow there's always unlimited money for war.

The Administration's strike in Venezuela was unconstitutional.

Congress wasn't consulted. We weren't notified. That's not how this works.

Today, I voted YES on an Appropriations bill that responsibly funds the government and puts real guardrails on Trump's lawlessness and ongoing betrayal of the American people. Read my full statement below.

I have joined the entire bipartisan CA delegation in urging the President to provide overdue federal disaster relief funding & resources to help LA communities rebuild & recover. Natural disaster recovery should not be a partisan tool that the President uses against survivors in need of help. (3/3)

Today, I stand with the California delegation to honor the work of our bave first responders, remember every life lost, and strengthen Congress's commitment to supporting recovery and rebuilding efforts.

This is state violence, not safety. The agent should be terminated, ICE MUST be held accountable, and we need a full investigation.

Today, I honor the public servants who defended our democracy.

Democracy survives only when it is defended. I intend to defend it.

Five years ago, a violent mob incited by Donald Trump attacked our democratic process and endangered the Capitol Police and the workers who keep this institution running.

That was not a protest. It was an assault on the Constitution.

Congress must reassert its Constitutional power to declare war and reign in this Administration.

We must use every tool to hold this President accountable and to defend the principle that in the U.S., we do not let one man choose war.

Happy 2026 East Bay! May this new year bring you and your family joy and good health.

Veterans in the Bay Area have been waiting for a new clinic and accessible service for the last 10 years - but the Trump administration recently cancelled the Alameda Point project.

This is no way to repay our veterans’ sacrifice to this nation.

CA-12 is one of the most diverse places in the U.S. with vibrant community organizations and institutions.

We have leaders and groups who power the East Bay, the nation, AND the future with their work.

Check out some of the causes that I was proud to secure federal grants for this year.

In your first year in Congress, people will tell you you can't do much in the minority - it's very important that you don't listen and fight like hell for the people of CA-12 who sent you here to advocate and work for them.

Last week, I had the honor of speaking to MBA students from @berkeleyhaas.bsky.social about my path from grassroots organizer to elected official. These are the leaders of today AND tomorrow, and I cannot wait to see where their stories take them… (1/2)

This week I got to meet with Brian Barth and Lamonte and John from Wood Street Commons, who were in D.C. raising awareness about the traumatic impacts of displacement and encampment sweeps and advocating for the empowerment of our homeless neighbors.

The decimation of the Department of Education is not reform, it is the resurrection of abandonment. Slashing funding and employees from the Department of Ed WILL harm our most vulnerable children the most -- Black students, poor students, queer students, disabled students, and more. (1/2)
