repost this if an editor has ever saved you from yourself

An actual hot take: Too many authors are afraid of editors watering down their voice or whatever and not afraid enough of editors letting you put any old slop on the page.

That we have raised citizens who need a "translation" of a book written in 1935 into "modern English" is a substantial part of why it is, in fact, happening here.

"It can't happen here"-until it does. It's happening here... right now!

In this gripping modern-English translation of Sinclair Lewis's prophetic 1935 novel, It Can't Happen Here, journalist Doremus Jessup watches in disbelief as the USA descends into authoritarian rule under the populist dictator

After all, to me, *my* "transness" consists precisely in the fact that, despite my unusual circumstances, I'm just a woman trying to live her life while she can. (And most of my identity-available energy is already being used being gay in hostile spaces and resisting ethnic assimilation.)

I just want to be sure you hear from *somebody* that this is okay. I'll disclose my status or talk about my experience when it's relevant--I don't hide it--but I don't wear it on my sleeve. ...

no no the publishing industry is doing fine, why do you ask
A screenshot from Publisher's Lunch:
Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

"Jews cannot weave rugs. If they could they would weave rugs now in their own country and would show the international community that they are able to weave rugs."

I am absolutely losing it. 🤣

One of the delights of being Jewish is that every righteous political struggle will inevitably disappoint you. Here's an Armenian nationalist going off in a rug identification.
A picture of "Mountain Jewish woman showing a carpet she wove, Azerbaijan, 1930s" crossposted into the What is My Rug Facebook group [...] In this photograph this Armenian lady is from Arcakh region of Armenia and she is holding a rug of Artsakh design. Since jews with the help of azeri turks have recently conquered Artsakh (in 2020), they are now trying to have the international community believe that the region belonged to them. Therefore they have invented the term "mountain jew". In fact there was no such a population in the region.
Therefore the claim that this is a jewish woman representing a jewish rug is more than ridiculous, since jews never had rug weaving, and still do not. If they had rug weaving, what is hindering them to weave a rug today and show the international community that they are rug weavers. heavily altered. The back ground is erased. Therefore no accompanying claim can be taken seriously. The rug in the photograph is an Armenian rug. There were no jews around. Jews cannot weave rugs. If they could they would weave rugs now in their own country and would show the international community that they are able to weave rugs.

Does anyone know a village that needs just one more to upgrade? I'm available. 📚📖

What is a large town? According to Mishnah Megillah 1:3, it’s a town large enough to sustain ten scholars who study all day and don’t otherwise work. Anything less is a village.

Both, depending on what colour you are.
