this is why I keep PowerTools locksmith around, most times it's the classic "file still in use by explorer" and this does the trick

Unreal 5: What's the most practical way to test (locally) how long a build takes to build shaders on first run?

I guess I could force my Intel integrated chip to run all games... XD

Any caveas using symlinks on Windows?

Context: In the Skribidi project, I have a set of assets that the example needs (fonts, etc). Currently they are copied to the bin folder in windows, and symlink on other systems. I wonder if there's something with Windows symlinks that will say meh?

Now for every start of (in my example of calc.exe) a window will open and ask you if you want to debug it in a new VS instance or a running one. and you get all loader information.

Bit confusing: when entering the name of the executable in "image" you need to press the Tab-key to load current info

I like the ability to automatically attach a debugger.

Specify "vsjitdebugger.exe" in Debugger.
This is broken on Win11 and you need to create a registry string key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\AeDebug\Auto and set it's value to "1" to make it work
richardkogelnig.bsky.social
There is some documentation about it here

minimal (and not really useful) about the loader snaps: learn.microsoft.com/en-us/window...

Here's a fly-by with the new trees. The fact that they cast/receive shadows even in the distance makes a huge difference compared to the old Unity billboard ones, which destroyed the sense of depth in the distance.

I'm frequently asked "how much does @compiler-explorer.com cost to run". I've done some digging and posted xania.org/202506/compi... which is a high-level breakdown of the costs (and revenue); and links to a more in depth report if you want all the gory details.

One of my favourite dev stories is from about eight years and two jobs ago, when our Xbox tests would just fail randomly and without any useful error messages. Turned out the issue was the Xbox dev kits were in a stack under someone’s desk and every so often he’d kick them by mistake
