GERMAN PRESIDENT STEINMEIER:

“.. the United States has broken with the values that it helped to establish ..

“.. we have now moved beyond the stage where we can lament the lack of respect for international law or the erosion of the international order; we are far beyond that, I believe.”

The man who shot and killed that woman in Minneapolis today had the word "police" on his chest.

But these ICE agents are not police. We don't have a national police force. Policing is state and local in the US. "Police" implies local origins, understandings, connection, and accountability. 1/
This angle shows Trump’s ICE agent standing on the side of the vehicle and firing into the open window at the driver. This was murder.

Pretty sure I'm one of the folks Mark's subtweeting. While I don’t feel compelled to respond, this actually provides a beautiful lesson for how academics and other serious observers might think about engaging with the Court and law. (thread)
There's a rising faction of the legal academy that stays quiet when their MAGAdemic colleagues produce fraudulent psuedo-scholarship in service to the cruelest aspects of Trump's agenda ... then leap in to police the discourse when their progressive colleagues criticize those MAGAdemics too bluntly.

"Our investigation developed proof beyond a reasonable doubt that President Trump
engaged in a criminal scheme to overturn the results of the 2020 election and to prevent the lawful transfer of power...showed that President Trump willfully retained highly classified documents after he left office"
Special Counsel Jack Smith’s testified before the House Judiciary Committee two weeks ago. His request to testify publicly was denied by Chair Jim Jordan, who then released the transcript on New Year’s Eve. READ the thread below.Share it. Here are some choice quotes from Jack Smith’s testimony about the conspiracy to overturn the results of the 2020 election.

“..the evidence made clear that President Trump was by a large measure the most culpable and most responsible person in this conspiracy.”

I don't think you non-science people realize what it takes to get a grant funded by NIH. Started experiments in Sept 2021 to generate 3 new mouse mutants to model human disease. Prelim dara shows they have relevant disease phenotypes worthy of study. Need a small grant first to characterize /1

Smith: He was getting calls from people he trusts, people he relies on—and he still refused to come to the aid of the people at the Capitol. That’s very important evidence for criminal intent in our case.

Jim Jordan was really scared on Jan. 6 after being in contact with the White House, Mark Meadows told Jack Smith’s team.

This comes out in testimony before Jordan’s own committee, which Jordan initially chose not to make public and then decided to release in the final hours of 2025.

Question: But the president’s statements that he believed the election was rife with fraud—those are statements protected by the First Amendment, correct?

Smith: Absolutely not. If they are made to target a lawful government function and are made with knowing falsity, then no, they are not.
