When I think:
'People have already written about this in a more interesting way; me writing it brings nothing new or of importance, only wasted time and effort.'
I stop and remember that I'm writing my story precisely because it's never been written the way I need it; that's what pushed me to start.

Thank you for the opportunity! I'd really love to meet and discover horror artists or writers, as this is my first try at properly writing something, especially this long.
I don't have anything yet, only scattered drafts and doodles, but I would love to start this journey by (re)introducing some! 🐦‍🔥

Initially, the environment. A fabricated being that belonged nowhere yet should fit everywhere. But it couldn't even comprehend what being alive was.
Then, humans. Whether they saw it as something or someone, it didn't matter, as long as it could be used.
Finally, itself. Forever.

Horror is known for having both natural and supernatural antagonists, like the landscape or a ghostly presence.

Q4 #HorrorWritersChat

In your current WIP or latest published horror work, who or what antagonises your protagonist?

The outro with promo opportunity will be posted in 10 mins.

Simple but direct. Descriptive, analytical yet intimate.
Ornamental language would help the reader distance themself from the story. But even the narrator steps out of its role at times and criticises, not just the characters, but also the audience. You're invading its being too.

Q3 #HorrorWritersChat

How does your writing style seek to instill fear, disgust, or otherwise unsettle your readers?

[See an example from Cynthia Pelayo in the graphic]

Ontological incompatibility and invasion.
A being forced into a shape and mind that is fundamentally misaligned with existence no matter how much it mutilates itself.
The catch: reality itself fails to accept and understand itself, for it was never meant to have a consciousness.

“Horror comes from a violation of what characters perceive to be reality.” - Writing in the Dark by Tim Waggoner

Example: a haunted house violates the assumption that we are alone in our homes.

Q2 #HorrorWritersChat
Which perceived realities do you utilise in your horror writing?

Hi, I'm Rye and I'm trying to clean up my long drafts and turn them into a multi-book Science-Fiction Horror novel titled Resonance.

Its horror subgenres are:
🌌Cosmic Horror
🧠Psychological Horror
🧬Biological Horror

I love Solaris, The End of Evangelion, and 2001: Space Odyssey.

#HorrorWritersChat
Welcome to #HorrorWritersChat

Q1
Introduce yourself and the horror subgenres you write.

Then, share three works of horror that influenced your latest work OR current WIP.

Lineart, anatomy and proportions.
Artists, I think we're all too comfortable sharing our imposter syndrome.

I would love to see you step out of your comfort zone and confidently state what you think you're actually really good at.

No self deprecation, just what you think you're the strongest at

Is anyone brave eniough? 👀

I was listening to that one slowed down version of Mozart's Lacrimosa, and I impulsively tried doodling my most expressive petri dish ever in MS Paint with a mouse.
Needless to say, it's so hard to draw and colour like this.

Any album that has the entirety of J.S. Bach's Organ Works.
If someone put $1,000,000 on the table and said you had to listen to one album on repeat for 48 hours straight…
what album are you risking your sanity for?

Draw what you want! Sounds really basic but solely making art with the expectation of popularity + success will poison the well of your artistic spirit, and you won’t really develop an artistic voice if you’re just trying appease your audience at all times, save for a voice that actually isn’t yours

Friend was venting a bit about struggling with "moot perception" and I think in 2026 some of you need to regain control and agency of your spaces. Having the "what will my followers think" mindset is self-harming. It's your account, with your rules, and every follower is a guest. Don't forget that.
