Epic D&D session coming up today, as my players -- simultaneously existing on two planes, due to strange magic -- face off with a dangerous warlock attempting to corrupt a dragon, and witness (and possibly intervene in) a fight between two gods.

I think my favourite part was talking about how leaning too hard on the Rule of Cool, over time, can corrode the stakes and the trust the players have in their own victories, as well as subtly privileging what the DM sees as ‘cool’. It’s something I think about a lot at my own table.
