An excerpt from TOO MUCH HEAVEN, a novel by Roanna Flowers aka Rowan Floyd. It is placed in a goldenrod box against a vintage postcard aqua blue sky with white puffy clouds and a squirrel with a halo peeping just over the bottom edge: Petrichor cranes a look over each shoulder to see if the Bombers or the Ladies Who Lunch Jog are reaching for their phones to call the cops (he needs another member of San Diego’s Finest on his case like he needs another squirrel in his life), and then he ducks under the fig’s wide canopy. The sound of the city goes pin-drop quiet, and he slowly straightens, his hands lifting to feel for branches that might be in his head’s way.
