Australian, 40-something (he/him) coder of Games & Stuff until the Industry took an Arrow to the Knee.

Looking for what's next, whilst making vids on old games & more.

Here for connections, not shitposts.

There is something about a gleefully daft idea being executed well, and should be appreciated and celebrated instead being meme'd out.

Ninja Golf (on Atari 7800) is one of those. Why not go for 9 holes of golf where you have to fight your way to your ball before making a shot? 😉

For #RandomGameSaturday, it's the NES conversion of "Danny Sullivan's Indy Heat", the follow-up to "Ivan 'Ironman' Stewart's Super Off-Road".

Which ditches the off-roading for the track, and adds pit-stops for fuel and damage repair into the mix.

Too hot to enjoy games on modern devices, but still comfortable enough for hardware clones of the best 8-bit.

Hadn't planned to touch the game today 'cause of the heat, but got some audio in at last.

Which will come in handy seeing I'm demoing it at next week's IGDAM meetup for Melb-based gamedev pals.

Be nice to see how others react to the build honestly and see if it's worth pushing on with.

Got something new for #RandomGameSaturdsy - the (recent) conversion of Tiger-Heli for the Atari 7800!

This is a rather impressive take on the arcade game, and it’s neat to see it arrive in space year 2025.

Thanks man! Yeah, it’s keeping 8-bit for now ;)

(Felt right to order the Tiger Heli conversion as a thing for myself!)

Just a little bit of #gamedev progress to show a new (and kind of important) system in my racer prototype & that's an UPGRADE system.

Completing races will earn points, and once you complete a run, you randomly get a new part which will buff your car up in a few areas.

A stupid game accomplishment is an accomplishment nonetheless - the first time I’ve made it to the end of a race in “Richard Petty’s Talladega” on the C64.

It’s a notoriously brutal racer (with some unfair driver AI), and I normally get 10 or so laps in a 30 lap race!

Not entirely surprising tbh. Two of those I covered for review (plus extra time on TRON with the earlier press demo too).

Solitare's kind of my game to burn a bit of time with when braining is a bit too much.

Be interesting to compare it with the stats off the PS5 tbh.

Genuinely so darn tired from all of this over the last few years.

Makes me wonder at times if all the work I've done over the years was actually good work. Whether I've got the talent or it's been faked the whole time.

Took advantage of a little stranding to go get a haircut. Nice to round how this horrid year with at least something nice! 😉

Been about 2 months since I had a chance to bash out some code on my little Sprint tribute/prototype.

But improved the rival AI cars by adding hints for cornering speeds, which helps them handle the tougher ones.

Lots more to do, but other systems need to come first!

I thought it’d be a nice to create proxies of the vids I recorded as part of this next episode.

My poor MacBook: oh no.

(It’s been there for a while, and I think it’ll take lots of time. Oops. So much for editing my next vid today!)

There we go. Thanks to the cowards in government, DMs are now off-limits to me.

Just an FYI for other Oz folk who might have missed the "news".

Enjoying some Actual Computer Gaming History at comp club today - playing a little of the Lander Demo in an Acorn Archemedies (A3000).

Lander of course begat Zarch, and Zarch begat Virus (when it got converted to other machines).

Of course, I’m as rubbish as I always am with it. No surprise!

Got a copy of "Too Much Fun: The Five Lives of the Commodore 64 Computer" and finally finished it off this week.

Thought it was a good read, though it's more academic in nature so might not be for everyone.

Four games with 10/10 soundtracks - C64 edition.

(All because I wanted something a little different to pool from, and hey, a dose of the 6581/8580 Sound Interface Device will do wonders for you!)

I think it's only fair to have gone to my folio's shelf for #RandomGameSaturday to pull out C64 Bard's Tale III as a little tribute for Burger Becky's passing.

Not spent enough time with it - the first is enough of a challenge, but it's an iconic entry in an icon series.

I feel like an ant trained to sort tiny screws in space, as today is the last day of the damn employability skills nonsense I've been shackled to for the past month.

FREEDOM! HORRIBLE, HORRIBLE FREEDOM!

Pulled off my copy of “GG Aleste II” for Game Gear as today’s #RandomGameSaturday pick.

As you’d expect from Compile in their prime, it utterly pushes the Game Gear hard, and is a tightly put together portable shmup.

After the gutenfucked day of "training", I finally get a reward.

Been looking forward to getting a proper play of DSD after trying the demo at PAX all those years back.

Congrats on the launch @mike.reuben.games & the team 😀

Games Group tonight had its yearly Decathlon - where members had to compete in 10 challenges based on 10 different games/genres/platforms.

Managed to win 3 of the events, and took home the silver! Kind of helped that some of the really skilled folks weren’t there this time 😉

Today's pick for #RandomGameSaturday is SimCity on C64! It wasn't the first version of it to see release, but was where the series' first steps begun (before being shelved for a while).

Which means it's pretty limited compared to many of the other versions of this City building classic.

Hype? HYYYYYPE!

Looking forward to a spooky trip to Game Worlds tonight.

Got some… not great news today, which has me feeling kinda worried.

But on the other hand, the 7800 Pole Position II vid has done way better than I thought.

It kind of stumps me as to why though, but I’m glad after the last few didn’t do so well.

Thx for the support on that front!

🖤
