Austria’s always been a special territory for Edwyn, thanks mostly to the support he got at a low point in his career from Ö3 Musicbox, a radio show I was lucky to work for in 1992-95.
Thinking of Werner Geier RIP, knowing that Grace and Edwyn still remember him too.

In May of 2024, Platz der Hamas Geiseln was set up in Bebelplatz in Berlin, which had a reconstruction of what they called a "Hamas tunnel." Visitors could walk through imagining they were simulating the suffering of Israeli hostages. Of course, again, it's essential to emphasize that visitors would not in fact experience what the hostages were and are experiencing, but that they would think they were approximating it. When it opened, I heard that students at Jewish schools were specifically invited to visit. What does it mean for non-Jewish Germans to invite Jewish children to a simulation of what the former thinks of as antisemitic terror? This goes beyond voyeurism — there's a certain kind of sadism there.

Board of Deputies doing the right thing there, except the problem, of course, is not that Chikli is “diaspora minister in name only”, but that the position of an Israeli diaspora minister is a paradox in itself, there to speak for people he doesn’t represent.

But then government/Mahmood need to make crystal clear this applies to people who have arrived since 2021 and are working in NHS/care right now -and that government is not going to change the rules and leave them at the mercy of a future Reform/Conservative govt
