OK, I don't usually do these kinds of tools, but this is pretty cool, and also visually depicts one way in which COVID impacted the early years in the lab of an antibiotic resistance & sepsis researcher, who is also a practicing ID doc:

The MMR vaccine is one of the most stunningly effective medical therapeutics in existence. It’s also safer than most of your everyday activities. This is simply an attempt to stop people from vaccinating.

In the era of widespread population immunity , among veterans COVID vaccines still reduced the risk for COVID related emergency room visits, hospitalization and death in the 2024-2025 vaccination season, especially in older veterans >65 years.

I have been trying to get this published as an op-ed, but I am going to post it here since I think it is timely in light of the "consent" extortion events.

"There is still time to act. But it requires confronting uncomfortable truths about the role of the USA in fuelling mistrust, and the political choices that have allowed it. The world cannot afford another crisis in which lives are lost not for lack of vaccines, but for lack of truth." 😷🛟policysky
A crisis of credibility: the global cost of US vaccine misinformation
The global health community faces a deepening challenge—not only from infectious diseases but also from a pandemic of misinformation.1 The USA, long a cornerstone of global health leadership, has beco...

I can tell you from personal experience caring for children like this that pertussis in a young infant is one of the most wicked diseases you can imagine.

It’s why we recommend that people get vaccination boosts both if pregnant or living in close proximity to young children.

However, vaccines have had a substantial impact on reducing the incidence of many infectious diseases and have dramatically reduced mortality for specific infections. For example, vaccines account for 40% of the global decline in infant mortality since 1974 (Shattock, Lancet 2024).

This is a truly remarkable finding: 17 years after introduction of the HPV vaccine, there was a decreased prevalence of HPV infection (and therefore decreased cancer risk) in both vaccinated AND unvaccinated individuals. Cancer prevention through herd immunity!!!

I think the R01 is basically a non-starter at NIGMS now. Data from NIH Reporter for new and competing awards, comparing number of R01s issued relative to R35s (MIRA). This has major ramifications for basic science and basic science investigators that are not yet in the MIRA pool
Graph showing total R35+R01 awards issued by NIGMS from 2020 to 2025. R01 in black showing a steep decline. R35 showing an increase. Total awards in 2025 slightly up from 2024 but these years are lower than 2020-2023

💉New study of HPV vaccine shows “robust population-level effectiveness & herd protection in adolescent girls & young women”

From 2006-2023:
➡️ Proportion of vaxxed women positive for high-risk HPV-16 & -18 types fell 98.4%, proportion of unvaxxed women fell 71.6%

Here's the key chart from that piece.

Note what's on here with significant risk: genetic inheritance (twin on autism spectrum, sibling), third trimester stress, and factors that can affect maternal/paternal DNA.

What doesn't carry risk? SSRIs. Sonograms. And vaccination. All very well tested.

Again, the BBC's presentation under-emphasises the astonishing effectiveness of vaccines.

This chart, plus the statistic in the article that 90.3% of children are vaccinated & some assumptions, gives a ~99% estimate for MMR vaccine effectiveness against measles cases.
