I didn't get out a lot in January. I was trying to start too many things & between trying to be too much & the chaos of the world, I failed big time. Starting to kind of reframe & refocus priorities before the negative actions become habit.

The day I photographed this, I happened to have my hockey skates in the back of my vehicle & skated a few laps around the bay. There was a good 8-12 inches of ice.
The winds shifted overnight and when I drove by the next afternoon all of the ice I had skated on was gone.

Here in Minnesota, the term ICE OUT refers to the day in the spring when the ice that has covered our beautiful lakes finally melts. We celebrate that day as if it's a holiday.
How will you celebrate ICE OUT when it happens? I feel like we'll take to the streets in celebration here in Minnesota.

Does art matter right now?
I haven't touched my camera or had the desire to in 2026. Does it even matter? The weather we have been having is usually my favorite time to go to the north shore and make photos. Yet, nothing.

The sun is spitting some craziness earthwise right now, almost all of the elements are there for a great show, but the BZ component is pegged northward. We need it southward in order to get much for aurora here.

The American Bison, when a storm is approaching does something pretty unique in the animal kingdom. It faces the storm and walks directly into it. Whether by instinct or not, they tend to then get through to the other side of the storm more quickly.

My supposed "representative" Pete Stauber has introduced yet another bill to eliminate the environmental protections of BWCA. He's gotten as relentless as Utah senator Mike Lee as far as his fervor to destroy our public lands and water.
