Apropos of nothing: I've been reading through Player of Games and there's a moment where the Azad outright state that the whole point of this empire-wide torture and domination ritual is the libidinal pleasure elite class gets from committing acts that would get anyone else ruthlessly punished.

My cousin is getting her English degree and she asked if I could help her out since, quote, 'Talking to you feels like trying to talk with an EIKEN exam'. Still not sure how to feel about that.

I've got a new Marcel story in the chamber and ready to go after some editing. Unfortunately, it's also Fanfiction, and the next book in the source series doesn't come out until next Tuesday, so now I need to wait until it's out so I can be sure nothing contradicts the new lore.

Still on my ASoIaF reread and honestly, of all the characters who haven't gotten chapters, I'd be most interested in a Margaery PoV. She's such a shrewd character but also, there doesn't seem to be much daylight between her public and private personas in a way I find genuinely fascinating.

I owe you an apology Mr. Whitman. I was unfamiliar with your game.

I like how every less-than-common flower/plant name is either charming, descriptive stuff like 'Red Mountain Lily' and 'Fence-post Hazel', or something completely off the wall like 'THE GODDESS OF THE NIGHT' and 'THE DEVIL'S SPINE'.

I've been really enjoying Outer Worlds 2 but the one small complaint that I do have is how few of the mission titles are references to previous Sci-Fi works. That was a great little detail in the first game and I really miss it here.

Just got a job offer. 70k per annum in my field and I don't need to sell my soul to Raytheon. I could honestly cry.

'An X of Y and Z' is such a common template for romantasy slop book titles that it's funny to see it used in other pieces. 'A Song of Ice and Fire' is the granddaddy in Fantasy, but 'House of Sand and Fog' and 'Days of Wine and Roses' both fit the template despite their respective subject matters.

Type Shit
A bratty reality warper with too much power and barely any restraint.
Bumped into them? Their new stress toy for a decade.
Cut past them in a queue? A germ wandering their body for a century.
Put something recyclable in the non-recycling can? No size shenanigans, that's just instant disintegration.

Has any story ever actually played the 'Princess in a Tower Guarded by a Dragon is Rescued by Knight' motif totally straight?

The closest two examples I can think of are Perseus/Andromeda, and St. George. But neither of those involve a princess in captivity. They're both about imminent sacrifices.

As someone who hates speeding I love the idea but as someone who works with software I can already feel the fear in my bones.
My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.
