How do you get sound on this stuff?

I'm replying here to your post, not to anything below.

Being a third, TV umpire, is a different job, and takes learning and training time.

The third umpires are obviously inexperienced in this because they have doing it for very little time but one only learns by experience, including vicarious.

Why does this person think any of this would be concerning?

He must have a reason for all this concern.

What is the concern?

This morning I turned on my phone only to find that it had changed my user name to Shirley, and when I tried to enter a simple Google query it came out as "Do you like gladiator movies?"

Then I realised it was in Airplane! mode.

Another image from this summer Greenland adventures, this time during a moody day with a bit of fog, and the signature red sails.

Do you prefer black and white or colour?

The hot summer is gone and in between DANAs, now is the chance to get into nature and do some walking here in La Sierra Espadan. 1/5

Just to be clear, an English degree - learning to critically assess texts - is actually one of the most dangerous for people such as Badenoch.

An educated population, able to bring hundreds of years of context to statements in a dawning age of AI slop and attention-seeking dishonesty is also vital.

So, the plan is to cut English, the arts, and sociology - the degrees that actually study culture - while on another part of your platform claiming to “defend” British culture.

It’s performance nationalism with a reading age of seven.

This makes me so angry. These people view all life as training for lifelong servitude/work. There's no room for interest, enjoyment, and culture in their bleak vision of education. At least she'll never be in power to see it through. Though Reform are probably worse.

I am absolutely fed up of this assault on critical thinking. Those in power & those who aspire to it don't want people to think critically; they don't want people to _think_. The Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences are valuable in themselves, but watch the economy tank if Badenoch has her way...

Today I’ve been exploring railways in Bourgogne, in particular the temporarily or de facto permanently closed Clamecy - Corbigny line, south of Auxerre

Not sure what to conclude, but it was a nice sunny autumn day, and a nice cycle along the Canal du Nivernais

Dad’s books are full of empathy, common sense, and a healthy suspicion of the powerful. But at its heart his work is also about how systems keep people poor while pretending it’s their own fault. So I hope Kemi’s taking notes as well as reading the jokes.
