Some things never change.
Asked by their hosts at Tonkin (Trinh) in 1672 'which was ye Greatest Kingdome England, France, or Holland', the East India Company factors there responded 'the fame of Great Brittiagne was great all over Europe', but added they shouldn't praise themselves. #earlymodern

Virginia State Senate Dems just brought down fire and fury regarding the “Compact,” notifying the President and Rector that UVA would lose ALL STATE APPROPRIATIONS if it signs and cedes the University to “federal political control.” Notably, their letter directly restates points made here by @siva.

The “compact” for higher ed is an unserious document written by unserious people from a position of spectacular ignorance. No one should take it seriously. Sadly, my bosses are taking it seriously.

The Speaker of the House has firm views that Bad Bunny is a terrible pick for singing at the Super Bowl, but hasn't had time to watch the President's speech to our military leadership or form an opinion whether furloughed federal workers should be paid or Illinois' governor should be thrown in jail.

The Trump admin’s illegal, vindictive cancellation of CT clean energy grants will only raise energy costs, reduce electricity reliability & create more pollution. I’m writing to DOE Sec. Wright demanding answers about this reckless, revengeful action.

I seem to remember this was one of those cuts that benefited Elon Musk directly because USAID was investigating one of his businesses. It may have been the Starlink terminals in Ukraine investigation or something else.

So corrupt as well as heartless.

It is an inexcusable omission, and editorial malpractice, for Reuters to omit mention that the President doing this kind of thing on a media platform he owns & has not divested is unprecedented, likely illegal and an ethical violation. The message itself is unprecedented and illegal. Why not say so?
