If anyone needs me, I'll be riding my bicycle through an enchanted forest.
Dirt path through trees and bushes like a tunnel, light shining on path in distance, green gravel bike propped against a tree

I think we need to consider what it is that makes throttle bikes a problem & address that, rather than get hung up on definitions. In my experience, aside from speed, it's acceleration - which could also be controlled. I recognise that this adds complexity but it would greatly improve accessibility.

If we had responded to Covid by normalizing masking, providing respirators in healthcare & adopting clean air standards…we could have beaten the virus.

We would also be seeing less measles, colds & flu.

We would all be healthier.

I believe history will see it as one of our greatest failures.

Lost faith in the online medical dictionary I was using when I tried to look up burr hole (as in trepanning) and it not only didn't have an entry but asked if I'd intended to search "butt hole."

For my Italian homework, I have to write a sentence using a specific idiom. The idiom exists in a very similar form in English except now I've thought about it so hard I can't use it in a sentence in English either.

I've been too unwell to ride my bike for a while and a few people have been like "bet you've changed your mind about bike lanes now!" and I have not - both because I want others (and hopefully me soon) to be able to cycle without dying and also, as a bus user, out of self interest.

When you’re on the bus you really notice that congestion is caused by cars.

The people in replies being like "I too would run over a teenage girl on a crossing and then yell at her for it." 🙃

Police in Airdrie, Alberta (just north of Calgary) say this driver hit a 17-year-old girl in a marked crosswalk, got out of the vehicle, and appeared to get upset at the teenager before driving away.

They released this video and are now trying to identify the driver.

Average wait times at nearby trusts are longer and presumably in my case I'd go to the back of the queue.
rosiemund.bsky.social
My mum has been told there's a year long waiting list for an audiology appointment. I still haven't got an appointment for the 6 month review I was supposed to have for a medication I started 10 months ago. Seems like the NHS is creaking at the seams. ☹️

all discourse aside, there is one machine with consciousness. it's printers. they are alive and conscious and they hate you and they'd take your arm clean off if you let them. never trust a printer.

Love too go from reading about how ebikers are menaces to society straight to nearly getting mown down by a Bentley driver at speed with all 4 wheels on the pavement (sidewalk) lmao

It is astounding how much negative ebike press has come out in the past few months, it almost as if they represent a real threat to the car industry.
rosiemund.bsky.social
I'm usually faster door-to-door on my acoustic but I also tend to carry less stuff! Some of the conflation is out of ignorance, some is deliberate. But illegal ebikes/emotos are, by definition, already illegal - they don't need extra banning from bike infrastructure.
rosiemund.bsky.social
Restrictions on ebikes also disproportionately affect older people, disabled people and parents. Some won't or can't make the journey by car or risk riding in the road. They might take public transport where feasible but some just won't go, meaning a loss of mobility.
rosiemund.bsky.social
One I've seen doing the rounds recently: "Ebikes shouldn't use bike infrastructure!"

There is no compelling case for this & trying to force ebikers into the road will result in many making the journey by car, increasing the risk they pose & undermining arguments for expanded bike infrastructure.

There are many, many anti e-bike people on this site. And many more who have opinions based on misinformation.

The people that need to see your post probably are not on BlueSky. #Motonormativity seems to support placing all modes other than car/truck into simplified categories to assign danger and blame. #eBikesAreNotMotoBikes

I lived in Beijing in the 90s and this was absolutely the case. The overwhelmingly majority of people cycled at least some of the time and drivers knew that the chance of encountering cyclists at any junction was virtually 100% so people both expected and largely accepted it and it was super safe.

IMHO, Frankenstein is a far better book - I liked the writing more and the story was more interesting. If you're looking for a Halloween read, strongly recommend!

Something like that. I'm more of a Frankenstein girl. But I know enough to know that that was him and his soil up at King Eddie's.

This just makes me so sad. People have been trained to hate the sound of other people. Meanwhile we all are marinating in the drone of motors all the time.
alisonstenning.bsky.social
This is appalling. It seems the parish council made a mistake, and some adults complained. And it's children and young people who lose out, with plans for a new play space pushed into next year at least.

It's the sound of children playing, FFS.

A play facility that was paid for by community fundraising has been demolished because residents complained about the noise.

They should be ashamed of themselves

Two updates. I don't know how many more I will have to make.

If I'm eventually banned, you'll know why.
Excerpt from article:

Update: It has since emerged that the community builder’s account has not only been permabanned from Bluesky, but also blocked from WhiteWind, Skylight, Bluescreen, Flashes, and “basically all ATproto apps/projects.” This effectively negates the very premise of the AT Protocol’s federated model.

Second update: A Jewish science journalist has now been suspended after publicly criticizing Bluesky’s CEO. A months-old skeet condemning Christian Zionism was presented as justfication, but this is clearly manufactured pretext.

At this point, all pretense is gone. This is outright retaliation by Bluesky’s leadership against any who dare criticize it.
