OTD 1989: Liza Minnelli – Results
Thanks to lovely Roy for alerting me to one that wasn’t on my calendar (it is now)
Now listening as I walk along!
Losing My Mind extraordinary
The best take on Twizt in my Zobriety
I Want You Now powerhouse opening
Don’t Drop Bombs is (So Sorry, I Said) a banger
Liza Minnelli – Results cover: Liza in black and white surging through the mist. It was the ’80s.

Fantastic, bizarre album. Cover of 'Twist in My Sobriety' with hip hop beats & rapped 'It's Liza with a "Z" not Lisa with an "S"' bit; Shakespeare sonnets recited over trancey beats; gorgeous orchestral versions of 'Rent' & 'Tonight is Forever'

A literary Iguanodon at the Earth Sciences Library. Do any other libraries have dinosaurs or other antediluvian creatures carved into the furniture?

There’s a small Scottish chain of record stores called Assai that do in-store gigs. (They also do album launch events at nearby venues - I was at one tonight!) There’s also the excellent Monorail in Glasgow that is a record shop/pub/cafe/venue combined. I can imagine that might work well?

A house that can fit 40-50 people is a bit of an ask, Melvin! 😂 But there’s lots of good small venues in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Stirling etc if she’s coming to Scotland…!

They just need to add a vortex and an angry aspidistra (Meglos?). That’ll solve everything

Oh no!!!! 😟

I got a code sent to me yesterday as a result of pre-ordering her album from her website the day before…

There was no mailing list announcement though, I just happened to go to her website when I saw posts about a tour

I generally enjoy them, mainly for The Adventure Game vibes. It must be said though, seeing the exact same puzzles play out in each instalment is less appealing and a tighter edit wouldn’t hurt either…

Why thank you! Allow me to return the courtesy!

Today is a day when arts degrees are worthless, but the product of those degrees is so valuable it would kill an entire industry if they were made to pay for it.

I felt Ocean to Ocean was such a return to form and I suspect her current political concerns will give this new album a lot of bite and drive… Felt I had to go, really!

I gritted my teeth and paid for stalls. I haven’t been able to go to her last few tours for various reasons so I felt I could justify the extra (to myself)

feels like yet again time to mention that the *videogames* industry (that's a creative industry, which people do creative degrees in) brings in more than twice the amount to the British economy as the fishing and steel industries *combined*

I cannot understand what these people think the purpose of human life is?

It is *not* "pursue joy, deal justly, love well, try to understand as much and see as much of this beautiful world and of the deepness, richness and variety of human culture and experience as you can before you die"?

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

And one of the industries which, relying entirely on freelance workers, but requiring public audience spaces, was fucked over completely by the pandemic, without mercy or assistance, but survived, on its knees so it can now get another kick in the teeth from these soulless twats.

Hey kids!

Remember when the pandemic struck and eventually the (Tory) government told everyone to stay at home, and the arts and entertainment industries were one of the few things keeping everyone from pulling our own eyes out of our skulls from abject fear and boredom?

Remember that?
