I stand for NOAA. But I can't stand being gaslighted by current comms staff (yes—just 'doing their job' and afraid of repercussions). They describe what will remain after SSMIS data ends as “the richest most accurate satellite weather observations available” (pics @michaelrlowry.bsky.social)

One of the comments that struck me in yesterday's call is how NOAA cuts are already affecting forecast capabilities. According to 45-year hurricane veteran Dr. Frank Marks, staff needed to fly NOAA Hurricane Hunters is down 50% this year. He's volunteering to pick up shifts to keep them running ⬇️

As reported by other colleagues today, confirmation of the regime’s *proposed* NOAA budget, with over 200 scientists to be fired & numerous labs shut, including Miami’s AOML & Hurricane Research Division, and all CO2 monitoring stations. Another regressive act with deadly and costly implications.

Absolutely unhinged statement from a government agency. All that paused grant funding was highly vetted by peer reviewers. The damage being done to our science infrastructure will take decades (if we are lucky) to undo.
NIH statement, per @ryanequinn.bsky.social: "There is no Federal funding for unvetted woke 'research' at Columbia. Any minimal disbursements that presently exist are for specific measures, including to wind down the grant entirely."
