The semiliterate people who use chatgpt like to point to calculators as a precedent of assistive technology but the thing is: calculators actually calculate.
A calculator really does let you outsource calculation. It does exactly what it is supposed to do, and marketed as doing, reproducibly.

if you have more than 40-50 credits required for your major, your model of "education" is information-conveyance and it gives comfort to those who say we can replace higher ed with youtube
The only interesting thing Stanford is doing is capping max credits in big majors. Engineering profs are whining about it.
