The Cubarsi Zone is soccer's version of the corner three.

Here is a list of midfielders I would rather have on my team than Declan Rice:

May we all never have to watch a game that ends with nine center backs on the field ever again.

Burnley completed 81 passes today. Can't remember the last time I've seen a team go 90 minutes without getting to at least 100.

Liverpool: have played zero good games.

Also Liverpool: nine points from nine, two points clear at the top, already won two of the toughest fixtures of the season.

That might be the dumbest soccer game I’ve ever seen.

Bryan Mbeumo and Matheus Cunha have made Manchester United better. Now they're pretty much exactly as good as Fulham.

Marshall Munetsi is becoming one of my favorite players in the Premier League: a midfielder who can't pass, doesn't pass, and just makes runs into the penalty area.

Currently on pace to score 152 goals and concede 76.

On the one hand, Liverpool might set the record for goals scored in a single season. On the other hand, Liverpool might set the record for goals allowed in a single season.

This isn’t reflected in the betting odds much (if at all), but from all the predictions I’ve seen: people who make predictions are too low on Arsenal and too high on Manchester City.

PREMIER LEAGUE PREVIEW: @rwohan.bsky.social and I ranked everyone from The Obvious Top 3 to The Obvious Bottom 3. Can Liverpool & City avoid imbalance? Can Arsenal score enough now? Will Chelsea ever stop buying attackers? And most importantly, hello again, Sunderland!

The "stats men" collected data for the 1974 World Cup. Via @statsperform.optajoe.com: Franz Beckenbauer won possession more often than any player, and he completed the most passes into the attacking third.
timkeech.bsky.social
In an anecdote about how VVD was rejected by analysts at Palace as the data said he had no pace (pace data wasn't available at the time afaik) Warnock and the writer of the article conclude that Beckenbauer would be missed by "the stats men" as he doesn't tackle enough.

The kumbaya days of 22/23 are long gone, is it fair that people are feeling this way?

If you loved Sarri's Napoli or De Zerbi's Brighton, you should be watching Mikey Varas's San Diego.

I wrote for the Guardian about the risky press-baiting style that makes MLS's newest team its most tactically interesting, statistically extreme and just plain fun.
