I'm not. This WNBA Finals game has had a big comeback and we're down to a 1 point game.

I know the grammatical pairing of gentleman is usually lady, but "lady's sweep" just feels wrong, maybe because it comes too close to "hey ladies, get back to cleaning."

In the MNBA when the higher seed wins 3 straight, loses 1, then finishes it off in game 5, we call that a gentleman's sweep.

Can we settle on the terminology now for the W, with a non-trivial chance it will happen in this first best of seven? Is it a gentlewoman's sweep?

Watching the Portlanders protesting.

I was worried. He wants violence. I know you folks will fight but that is playing his game. You can't out-violence them.

So you are having a dance party. So freakin smart. I love you all. Ya'll got this.

Stay safe enough.

Also, I once replied to a post from BlackBerry on Twitter, not even knowing it was a contest, and it resulted in me winning $500 in Visa gift cards, a new phone, and 2 new tablets. The gift cards were basically our honeymoon discretionary fund.

In the peak of blogs I was a part of a network of really interesting writers (and later, podcasters). I learned a lot through them. It all started from a playful hashtag on Twitter.

My Pixel Watch 4 has arrived and it turns out that smartwatches have gotten significantly more complicated since the days of my Pebble Time or Fitbit Charge 2.

Firefighters: Don't plug your ebike in overnight. Watch it carefully as it charges.

Public: *gasp* That's so dangerous.

Firefighters: Yes, much like your phone.

Public: I... what?

That line about infrastructure to slow down drivers - while technically correct - is rich coming from someone who restricted the ability of cities to put in a particular one last year which actually works. If Ford doesn't want speed cameras, then REPEAL BILL 212 NOW! #shame #BikeTO #TOpoli #ONpoli

Ontario Premier Doug Ford responds to our story that someone driving a vehicle assigned to one of his cabinet ministers was recorded stunt driving, pivoting to talk about municipal infrastructure. #OnPoli

When anger and fear are your motivation, they will eventually fizzle out and you will burn out.

When love and hope are your motivation, you will find that you can keep going.

Anger feels powerful. But that power is fleeting.

Find what you want to fight FOR, not against.

Of course that would take years to trickle out, though, which nobody caught up in the current moral panic would ever accept. They want to use the power of government to "save the children" right now, no matter how bad the precedent and how terrible the consequences will be.

I'm still most inclined to an opt-in standard. Let sites declare a rating for their content. Many would do it because the reverse would also be true: if you want porn, it's more clearly labelled and searchable. Then parents can set controls for which users can access what content.

At best, maybe there will be a way for your device to pass through to a site a simple yes or no on whether you are above the age line. But there's not much profit in that like there is in collecting personal data, so that may never happen.

Otherwise, age verification is a horrible idea.

You do need to leave some percentage in there for the third leg of the Doug Ford tripod of bad governance: handing over billions of dollars in public funds and lands to help out his developer donors.

It’s not a great look for any government that they can say “We’re going to stop enforcing this law” and people will ask “Why, which cabinet ministers keep breaking it?”

"The only thing municipal speed cameras are 100 per cent effective at is taking money from hard-working people."

Aside from being incorrect - they are proven to slow people down - let's be specific about which hard-working people he means: the ones breaking a law (like his cabinet ministers).

eventually politicians need to start advocating for criminal and civil penalties for people involved in fabricating stories to get citizens incarcerated.

or, put another way: a society that would like to keep functioning has to discourage baldfaced lying, especially by authorities

I've steadily started using them more in coding, essentially replacing a search engine. It does better at understanding the problem I'm facing, even if I don't know the exact keywords to search, as well as stitching together a bunch of different results into something that is applicable.

I do not have nearly the mental energy to try to figure out what the current BlueSky drama and the (I think maybe happened as a corollary) Mastodon drama is about.
