Class 1 e-bikes, which require pedaling and have electric assist that tops out at 18mph, are very different than throttle-operated class 2 and 3 bikes, which are themselves very different from the bigger, faster electric motorcycles that are proliferating under the “ebike” label.

My unpopular urbanist opinion is that big, hyperfast two-wheelers are a menace and should be banned from bike lanes/paths (with enforcement).

These things endanger everyone riding a bike or legal e-bike. Worse, they deter some from even trying.

E-bikes have evolved into e-motorcycles. Law enforcement is lagging behind.

Serious injuries are on the rise in emergency rooms around the country, as electric cycles become bigger and faster. Lawmakers and police departments are scrambling to address the problem.

Andy Fillmore and District 8 Coun. Virginia Hinch are hosting a town hall at the Needham Community Centre at 6pm tonight.

Fillmore has hosted a few town halls: in Lower Sackville, Lucasville, and one in Cole Harbour, which he shut down early. We will see what people have to say at tonight's event.

Preston Mulligan at CBC did a bit on bridge traffic focusing on the 40% reductions in collisions. Mulligan spoke with people who say the collisions are still happening but just not where the toll plazas used to be:

We have HUGE back-ups on the Circ headed for the Mackay Bridge, HFX BOUND.

The circ is backed up past the Big Mall in Dartmouth...

Pretty sure it's because of the collision on Barrington - because traffic is slow coming off the MacKay, headed for Barrington #HFXTraffic

And that's basically how I treat it.

The consequences of an ebike battery catastrophic failure are much worse, so obviously I treat the battery with a lot more respect than my phone or laptop; guidelines are followed, etc

But... no. I'm not babysitting it through a 6-hour cycle. No one is!

Hot take: I like that phones got added right next to ebike batteries because

1) the technology is basically the same

2) everyone thinks plugging in your phone overnight/without tending to it is completely normal behaviour

Journalists love the Trump admin because they reliably and easily provide scoops that would otherwise be really hard to get. They leak like a sieve. If you see any reporting about anything Trump adjacent credited anonymously, it’s a Trump source.
