It would take a two-word amendment to 42 U.S.C. § 1983 to subject ICE agents and other federal law enforcement officers to the same liability for constitutional violations that local and state officers currently face.

If Congress actually cared about what it's seeing, it could pass that overnight.

swing voters are real, here to stay, and gigantic morons
New Gallup figures in these charts. Well, so much for that emerging Republican majority people were writing about in November 2024. Was evidently a mass overreaction to Trump's win and failure to acknowledge softness of support, and thermostatic politics www.gelliottmorris.com/p/trumps-win...

The Ellison/Weiss CBS News of today would insist they couldn't platform Eisenhower without also platforming Göring and if anyone pointed out how ridiculous it was they'd talk about the importance of "open debate" and if you complained loudly enough they'd say "come debate that on my podcast"
/2 This will be grotesque. Edward R. Murrow didn’t have a radio show in 1946 where Eisenhower debated Göring about whether the Nazis had some good points. Today’s media would absolutely do that. Today’s media will platform people defending and rewriting Good’s murder for years.

@jessicavalenti.bsky.social got it right when she wrote this. I don't know a single woman who hasn't heard that. Most of us get away with our lives but, on some level, we know that was just luck.

"Fucking bitch."

I don't even need to say she was not being a fucking bitch.

Like it matters.

I've come back to this because I think both points are correct.

NoKings is huge. But NoKings was fairly easy to do. In Iran the protesting is hard and at great personal risk. We see some of that too (ex: MN) but there could be more.

But the bigger issue is how little risk our leaders will take.
I see this take around from time to time and totally disagree. ICE just murdered a woman standing up to them. No Kings is among the largest protests in history.

The complacency is coming from elites in media, business, universities, and the Democratic leadership

Although this image appears to be a screenshot of a Wikipedia infobox, the Wikipedia article about Trump never showed this (even as brief vandalism).

It's either photoshopped or someone used the edit preview feature but didn't (or couldn't) commit the change.

The message from the White House this morning is that, once again, it falls on ordinary American citizens to remain calm and professional when dealing with the heavily armed agents of the government because they are very emotional and might fly off into a murderous rage at the slightest insult.

I can't say this loudly enough: THEY ARE TRYING TO NORMALIZE THE KILLING OF CIVILIANS FOR PARTICIPATING IN FIRST AMENDMENT PROTECTED PROTEST ACTIVITIES.
Homan: "We gotta stop the hateful rhetoric. Saying this officer is a murderer is dangerous. It's just ridiculous. It's gonna infuriate people more which means there's gonna be more incidents like this."

Trump is clearly not well.

At a meeting with oil industry CEO’s Trump suddenly interrupts his introductory remarks, gets up and looks out the window and starts talking about his ballroom. Trump then realizes his mistake and says “unusual time to look”, and sits back down to continue.

The only way the next democratic administration is going to do anything even somewhat resembling reforming and rooting out lawless thugs from ICE and elsewhere is due to sustained popular pressure. Otherwise, the instinct from the Dem elite to just turn the page and move on is going to be massive
A woman recording an ICE agent tells him "Shame on you."

The agent responds, "Have you all not learned from the past couple of days?"

"Learned what?" she asks

Then he knocks her phone out of her hand

They're trying to escalate. They're trying to start something so they can put it down violently. Why else would she say stuff like this?
Leavitt: "The deadly incident that took place yesterday in Minnesota yesterday occurred as a result of a larger, sinister left-wing movement that has spread across our country where our brave men and women of federal law enforcement are under organized attack."
