Looking on the bright side: The game ended early enough to allow me to watch Slow Horses before bed.

Yankees hitters (in the starting lineup) who finished the postseason (7 games) with a batting average below the Mendoza line:

- Grisham (.138)
- Stanton (.192)
- Chisholm Jr. (.182)
- Volpe (.192)

The Yankees were straight-up outplayed by the Blue Jays in this series. It isn't really more complicated than that.
samitsarkar.bsky.social
Seriously, what else could Aaron Judge have done in this postseason?
samitsarkar.bsky.social
They're down by more runs than they have outs left. Also, never underestimate the draw of beating the crowds/traffic!
samitsarkar.bsky.social
When the Yankees loaded the bases with another walk, Joe Davis gave them props for "not rolling over." Sure, I guess putting runners on is better than three quick outs, but... how many times in this postseason have the Yankees loaded the bases and managed to score no runs or maybe one???
samitsarkar.bsky.social
That Aaron Judge at-bat completely turned on the god-awful strike call on the 2-0 pitch, which was clearly both low and outside (as Joe Davis pointed out on the broadcast).

(Obviously, it went right into the ground, so it had lost a bunch of that velocity by the time it reached Rosario.)

I don't know if MLB does catch probability for things that aren't fly balls, but I'd be curious.
samitsarkar.bsky.social
The Fox commentators keep giving Amed Rosario shit — and Aaron Boone shit for replacing Ryan McMahon with him — for not being able to nab Alejandro Kirk's double down the third-base line, and... I just don't get it.

Joe Davis claimed the ball wasn't hit hard; it had an exit velocity of 96.1 mph!
samitsarkar.bsky.social
Again: The kid did his job — more than that, actually! The Yankees offense simply hasn't held up its end of the bargain.

Cam Schlittler is the 10th pitcher with at least 6 innings and 2 ER or fewer in multiple starts facing elimination in a single postseason (ER official since 1913 in both leagues)

First since 2015 Marco Estrada

First Yankee
samitsarkar.bsky.social
worth noting that the Yankees' numbers here are inflated by the 7 runs they scored in Game 2 when it was already well out of reach

(by the way, they have just TWO hits tonight through 6 innings at the plate)
Offense This Series

Toronto: 33 runs, 47 hits
New York: 18 runs, 30 hits
samitsarkar.bsky.social
Welp. Devin Williams has been great lately, but the Yankees have just stepped on one too many rakes tonight.
samitsarkar.bsky.social
Well, the Yankees took advantage of some sloppy Blue Jays defense last night; tonight, it looks like we're about to see the opposite. Brutal spot for an error by Jazz.
samitsarkar.bsky.social
Also can't ask for much more from Ryan McMahon tonight! Another web gem right there.
samitsarkar.bsky.social
Cam Schlittler hasn't had his best stuff tonight but has still managed to pitch into the 7th while holding the Blue Jays to just 2 runs. Can't ask for much more than that from him; it's on the Yankees offense (or lack thereof) at this point.

Big hugs for you, man 💙

Also worth noting: McMahon was down in the count 0-2, and worked the count full before the homer. Heck of an at-bat.
pinstripealley.bsky.social
By the way, Ryan McMahon had homered against a lefty just once since mid-April: June 10th against the Giants' Kyle Harrison. What a time for his first in pinstripes!

Ryan McMahon's first career playoff home run ties it up at Yankee Stadium in the third inning.
samitsarkar.bsky.social
Ryan McMahon, the guy known for his Gold Glove-caliber defense, ties the game with a homer! Let's go!

SCOOP: Last year, Ubisoft cancelled an Assassin's Creed game set during Reconstruction. Was to feature a Black Assassin who, among other things, fought the rise of the Klan

Sources: Leadership nixed it over concerns re: U.S. political climate, backlash to Yasuke

Since I was at the game, I didn't quite appreciate (until later, when I saw this) just how mind-boggling a feat Judge's homer was.

His arms are probably as long as my legs, and yet he brought them in close enough to do THAT to a 99.7 mph pitch in that spot (without even barreling up the ball!).
jamessmyth621.bsky.social
Wild note from @slangsonsports.bsky.social & @andrewsimonmlb.bsky.social

Judge's home run is MLB's first since at least 2008 (when pitch tracking started), that was off a pitch that fast and that far inside
jamessmyth621.bsky.social
on the Aaron Judge home run off the pole:

99.7 MPH is the fastest pitch he's ever hit for a homer

1.2 feet is the furthest-inside pitch he's ever hit for a homer
