As far as I'm aware, you need a stable currency for 2 years to be accepted, we use sterling for 2 years and then what we need after, be it our own currency or euros.

On independence, Scotland would continue to use the pound sterling for a period, before
moving to the Scottish pound.

The change to the Scottish pound would take place as soon as practicable.
