Mostly I lurk. Following journalists, historians, film critics, cricket writers and Luton Town FC fans.

I only use TikTok on desktop for work, searching specifically for beauty, hiking and women's health content. So how do Farage and Reform make it to the top of my feed every day?

They've created misinformation machines that millions of people are taking at face value. Fascinating/scary thread below:
If you know me, you know what I think of gen AI - it can automate some tasks and write decent code but can only ultimately rephrase the Internet.

Yesterday I was (lazy/time-poor) so I tried Cerebras' Llama-3.1 interface.

I think this is quite illustrative of gen AI chain-of-thought 🧵

This would be heartbreaking. The Prince Charles is an institution.

Is there anything else we can do aside from signing the petition?

Gemini kicked in on my Gmail account today and it does nothing but get in my way with its stupid 'help me write' pop-up.

This feature isn't freeing up my time, it's wasting it and driving me mad. And I can't figure out how to disable it. I am sick to death of bloody #AI.

This article by @sean-russell.bsky.social inspired me to broaden my music horizons by listening to some of the best-rated albums of last year. Already opened my ears to wonders of English Teacher, Ezra Collective, Lady Blackbird and The Last Dinner Party.

Streaming has ruined music and films — this year I’m going retro
Music and film streaming services offer the illusion of choice but actually take away our independence, so I’m returning to CDs, DVDs and radio

A perfect series of events and good luck must have enabled this rediscovery of a lost film. Amazing. Hope it gets a full restoration and we can all watch it one day.

Currently obsessed with plants. I've been growing microgreens on the windowsill, and in the last three hours two of them have opened their leaves and thrown off their seed husks. You look up and suddenly they're different, but you never actually saw them move.

Loving a renaissance for Pamela Anderson, and this looks great. Definitely going on the watchlist for February.
Veteran Vegas showgirl Pamela Anderson's life is turned upside down when her show closes after 30 years in the teaser trailer for Gia Coppola's 'The Last Showgirl'. Out January 10th in the US, February 28th in the UK.
THE LAST SHOWGIRL | Official Teaser | At AMC Century City on 12/13 for one week & Theaters 1/10

To anyone new to Bluesky, a few things you should know about how we do things around here:

We all take shifts to enter 4, 8, 15, 16, 23, 42 into the computer and then hit EXECUTE every 108 minutes. This will reset the timer and stop the world from ending. But apart from that just enjoy yourself!

I'm out of the habit of posting. Twitter/X created a toxic environment where self-censorship and silence became preferable.

But if I do post, it will probably be on world news, films, history, cricket, football, and books. Mostly history books.
