Got on the longlisted for Furious Fiction again this month and then also found out I'm in the running to win the Mindshare Awards. I was nervous about putting myself in the Established Writer's category but seems I passed muster...

Discovering computer as an adult makes you go crazy. Discovering computer as a baby makes you go crazy. In all of human history, there will only ever be one generation to discover computer at the correct age: 13
The problem with every post-Millennial generation is they got to go straight to high speed internet. Of course you'll get computer madness that way. Make them start with those old screeching modems and work their way up

To prep my Year 11 class for studying The Importance of Being Earnest next week I delivered a lecture on the life of Oscar Wilde. When I'd finished, one of my students has tears in her eyes and said to me "I've never cried from a powerpoint before..."
Yes, I am going to take that a compliment.

AI must be destroyed, it's a moral imperative for many many reasons. Any AI defender is my enemy
I got the complaint in the horrific OpenAI self harm case the the NY Times reported today

This is way way worse even than the NYT article makes it out to be

OpenAI absolutely deserves to be run out of business

New video! I streamed the first couple of hours of Tiny Bookshop. I've only fallen more in love with this game since then: youtu.be/FHiUYFRxPcg?...

This is exactly what I do and it's funny how validating this was.
My parking garage hack: in most situations, what floor you're on doesn't matter, what matters is your proximity to the elevator. So instead of fighting for spots in the first few floors, just keep going to an emptier floor and park right by the elevator. Thank you for your attention on this matter

I just finished reading The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo which I loved, but what has stuck with me is this incredibly poignant and personally relatable description of what divorce can feel like. Can't stop thinking about this.

I've never bought a game on release date before, but I have been WAITING for Tiny Bookshop and downloaded it on Friday as soon as I could, then played it all weekend. It's exactly what I was hoping it would be and more, and just what I needed after a week that was, let's just say, pretty fucked.

So hey I started a YouTube channel! It's designed to be a chill, cosy space to just talk about movies and books and do crafts and talk about things I found in thrift stores. Come hang out with me? www.youtube.com/@sarah.chill...
The Chill Out Show
Here's a little corner to sit on a couch and talk movies, pop culture news, and just hang out. No hot takes or big debates; just a cosy chat.

ChatGPT has done many destructive things to society, but perhaps the most annoying on a personal level is making me very self-conscious about my love of the em-dash.

Chatted to my mum about the Hottest 100 of Aussie songs and she of course casually mentioned how many of the groups she had seen live during their peak. This included Men at Work, INXS, Midnight Oil, Cold Chisel and the Whitlams.

So for the school musical this year I wrote a version of The Wizard of Oz that has only 80s and 90s music and I want to share my fave joke which is when they're about to leave Oz and Dorothy can't find Toto, the Wizard says "I've got Toto right here" and Africa starts playing.

I watched the Darts World Cup this week and it was very entertaining and impressive but almost made me think that if I really committed myself it'd take me about five years to get to the Darts World Cup

Writing is thinking.
i just find this so bizarre. searching through texts and doing the reading for myself is how i actually think through ideas! trying to put together a sentence is how i figure out what i actually want to say!

Okay so my Year 12s are studying A Doll's House at the moment and folks, they are SO INTO IT. We're watching a pro shot and their reactions - they pull faces whenever Torvald calls Nora a nickname, they GASPED when Dr Rank confessed his love - are amazing. Sharing classic lit with teens rules.

I showed my Year 12 Drama class the Freaks and Geeks pilot today. I listed some of the names in it before and they didn't know them. After watching it, they recognised:
Busy Phillips from the Mean Girls musical movie
Linda Cardellini from Legally Blonde
and Seth Rogen from....The Lion King.
