Words matter with autism, anxiety & ADHD.

When some one is in the pit of despair they don’t need:

A clever anecdote
A story that shows your suffering
A “there there” to patronise
A “it’s not that bad” to trivialise the pain

Remember it is not your hole, so listen

Despite being assaulted years ago, I’m still waiting compensation. Tomorrow I’ll spend money on more private psychological support for PTSD, as my life has to keep moving forward.

I know 'what I wanted' is not a great measure of anything but I think it's fair to say that many Labour voters wanted a government that held strong to its values, stood up for the vulnerable in society, acted against bigotry and took a progressive approach. We currently have none of the above. 😔

A story all too familiar, no school, no Social (don’t) Care input, no support and a parent unable to work, yet our government wants to push us all back into work… HOW?

Imagine waking up every morning, full of dread & terrified about going to school. Now imagine being expected to focus & learn in that state - if you even make it to school at all.

This is the reality for far too many children. A whole-school approach to #AntiBullying isn’t optional - it’s essential

I was reminded tonight that ABA still exists,

And I still can't believe the argument for ABA is either

1) Traumatize the autistic person so they deal with scary society "easier"
2) Make them as "independent" as possible so they can navigate society

You know what reduces functioning? Trauma & PTSD

Words give access to services
Words help with welfare
Words end discrimination
Words empower and create choice
Words save lives (suicide avoidance)

Learn to use words for PRACTICALLY better outcomes!
