so: what do we need you to do? two things.

1.call your D/I senators. find contact info here: reps.fyi

what do we need you to say? try the call script below. adapt it; make it your own! there are bailout points written in, in case you get nervous. but please *call.* 🧵
Hi, my name is [YOUR NAME] and I'm one of Senator [THEIR NAME]'s constituents. House Republicans are trying to insert a multiple articles of anti-trans legislation, including a full transgender healthcare funding ban, into the F-Y '26 budget. I'm calling to tell the Senator to stand up for trans Americans and vote NO on any bill with that language. This IS worth forcing a shutdown.

[you can stop here at 0:20 if you want to bail out—but it's better if you don't]

This care funding ban follows the map the G-O-P charted while attacking abortion. Democrats lost that fight by giving in to the G-O-P an inch at a time. Giving an inch at a time on trans care will devastate trans Americans and it'll get Democrats nothing in return but contempt.

[you can stop here at 0:40 if you want to bail out—but it's better if you don't]

Right now, the most popular Democrat in the U-S, [Zo-RAHN Mom-DA-nee], is campaigning on making trans healthcare cheaper and easier to access, and he's only got more good will because of it.

[you can stop here at 0:50 if you want to bail out—but it's better if you don't]

I'm asking the Senator to refuse to allow any anti-trans language including a healthcare ban in the F-Y '26 bill. Do not vote for any bill with that language. This IS worth forcing a shutdown. Standing with trans people is the right thing to do and it's politically smart. Voters and donors show up for Democrats who fight.

Yea I'm not assuming that lending was "fairer" before (the book goes into detail about redlining and racist/sexist practices by banks too), but I am still surprised it wasn't standardized until then!

I have, I am terrible at starlord Lol. I do enjoy playing Spiderman in that game though, he also does similarly annoying things.

We are in the second week of the Republican shutdown.

Where are House Republicans? On vacation.

Went looking around the Capitol to see if any Republicans had the common sense to come back. Featuring @mcbride.house.gov.

After spending 43 years in prison for a crime he didn't commit, evidence hidden by the prosecution reversed his conviction. Rather than finally enjoying freedom, ICE abducted him for deportation

Depraved.

October 11th. Fifteen years ago today I had my first day of work with a little game dev team in Austin, Texas called Arkane Studios. They were just gearing up full production on a new game in a new IP, called Dishonored.

I was terrified. 1/24

Yea it was real weird. I wouldn't comment if it was a 1-off phase or something but they just kept saying stuff like that..

Yesterday I was told that the class I’m scheduled to teach this month, Confronting Oppression & Injustice, is no longer part of our curriculum. This is a required class yet there was no discussion, no faculty vote, just an email saying the class no longer exists. This is what it’s like in Texas now.

Like yes we get it misogyny in medicine is bad but you do realize you just talked to a trans man right? Who's also "male"?? The comedians just really weren't mathing in that episode. I also get that it's hard to comedian without separating cis men and 'punching up' but like, could be trans though!!
autsciperson.bsky.social
Even Dropout did the thing in their new Crowd Control show where they talk about "so many women and nonbinary people here" and then assume masculine people are cis men and making jokes about them being cis men.. except for the one clockable trans guy. And ending with "no male doctors!"

I'm also remembering the vitriol of competitive players when I picked Mei even as I successfully defended or capped objectives. Those were interesting times..

*me remembering just how annoying tracer is to play against* - I would spend way too much time trying to shoot icicles at tracer as Mei. But getting those eventual headshots was so satisfying tbh.

The editors of the CDC’s Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR) were apparently fired today.

The precursor to MMWR began in 1878 to address emerging public health threats rapidly.

We are not “great” without it. We are vulnerable to threats from sporadic foodborne illness to bioterrorism.

Grassroots org @translatinacoalition.org recently announced an initiative for LA's housing programs to materially support trans peoples' housing needs. These initiatives should be a priority in every city and state.

Trans POC once again leading the way!

YES: A Wyoming librarian fired for refusing to pull LGBTQ books just won a $700,000 settlement for violation of her First Amendment rights. 👏 Let this be a warning to every censor-happy official in the country.

Some of these people have now been fired and rehired TWICE since January. The current state of dysfunction is mind boggling.

OOOPS! UPDATE: Two HHS officials tell me that disease detectives, measles response officers, global health officials and the MMWR staff were laid off by mistake and will be reinstated. But Washington office is still RIFed

My new interest recently has been banks & from this book I've learned community banks used to be a thing in the 1990s and would invest in local communities but now there are giant conglomerate banks that just.. don't do that.

Putting money into community banks/credit unions can make a difference.

Update for Newsom's bill signings today:

No signatures or vetoes on the 10 bills we reported on. However, he signed a bill that bans sex or gender discrimination in youth athletics that passed with bipartisan support.

I have honestly no clue how it impacts trans athletes, so don't ask me lol

A 15 year old boy with autism went missing earlier this week

He was selling fruit with his family in Springbranch when he disappeared

They filed a missing person’s report & begged the public to help find him

Turns out he was in a Houston ICE detention facility

They kidnapped a disabled child!

Today on Volts: last year, the residents of Ann Arbor, MI, voted to create a "sustainable energy utility" that operates alongside the investor-owned utility & supplements it with clean energy. This is, AFAIK, the first arrangement of this kind in the world. I talk with its architect & champion.

For me (total heat pump nerd), one exciting possibility of cities starting their own sustainable energy utilities is that "city worker comes over and installs a battery" is a tiny hop away from "city worker installs your heat pump," which could make heat pumps so much more affordable.
