I'm very proud of this book: it has a wonderful array of work by many of my favourite historians, which cumulatively makes the pitch for understanding modern British History through the lens of the urban. Lund Humphries have done a wonderful production job, & it is a big beautiful book. Buy it now!

I've been waiting to comment publicly on this until the university made its announcement, but the Department of History at Princeton is devastated by the recent death of our wonderful colleague Alison Isenberg.
Alison Isenberg, distinguished urban historian and co-founder of Princeton-Mellon Initiative in Architecture, Urbanism and the Humanities, dies
A public memorial and celebration of Isenberg’s life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 6, at the University Chapel.

Y’all if they’re marching in The Woodlands and Marble Falls that means a shit load more than marches in DC, NYC, and Boston.
No Kings protest in The Woodlands, Texas (north suburban Houston). This is the first such protest to occur in the community. I overheard a number of folks telling others that they had never attended such an event before but had gotten to the point of feeling they needed to do something.

On a Tuesday in March, Rümeysa Öztürk writes, “I was thrust into a nightmare.”

For VF, the Fulbright scholar details what she witnessed in the six and a half weeks she spent inside a South Louisiana ICE detention center.

Her office opens at 9am - let's jam those phone lines, folks, let's demand to know when she will be denouncing these federal kidnappings and this brazen attack on our neighbors, our students, our school, and our state.

An interesting report on the new Sunday opening of the Stornoway Tesco by @everebecca.bsky.social, which makes the case that it's community and workers' leisure, not simply religion which is at stake. Stornoway is better understood as part of changes that have impacted all of us.
