That puts us at 36 among developed nations for literacy but what about non-developed nations? Costa Rica isn’t considered a developed nation and their literacy rate is 98%. 19 percentage points above the U.S. literacy rate. We’re doing something seriously wrong in educating readers.

We need to be talking more about the other stat in this article, that literacy has dropped 1% in the U.S. in 20 years. That’s 340,000 fewer people who can read! This is a catastrophic loss for a country that already had 20% of people illiterate: bit.ly/4mUn94C

Brad Lander was my local city rep for many years. You could email or call his office with a problem and get a reply within an hour. He’s a really descent human, a really great leader, and an excellent manager of resources (both people and otherwise). I really wish he could be our next mayor.
