I was at a punk show in 83 where a skinhead jumped up on stage and gave a Nazi salute.

The bass player hit him with his bass, knocking him into the crowd and 150 people collectively hauled his ass out of the venue and threw him in the mud.

This was the right and only appropriate response.

Saw a gaming hot take that said blank slate protags are “lazy and boring”. They may be boring but they are about as far from lazy as a development choice can get.

Every aspect of the protag is significantly more complicated/expensive when there’s a wide range of options.

taking name suggestions for this new RPG system. It's characteristics are:
- meant to be played 1 on 1
- very slice of life/anthology based
- no levels
- generic themed, not fantasy or scifi or anything
- VERY SIMPLE d6 system
- heavily inspired by tiny dungeon

THE BASIS OF THE SYSTEM: ROLLS: Rolls are the basic foundation of [WIPTTRPG]. All rolls in [WIPTTRPG] are made with 6 sided dice (d6). When one of any various kind of challenge takes place - be it a demanding task, or an attack made in combat - a Roll is required. When a Roll is called, a number of d6s is rolled for each point in the associated Attribute for that roll. If ANY of the d6s resulting roll is a 5 or a 6, the Roll is considered a Success. If none of the d6s rolled is a 5 or 6, the Roll is considered a failure. If a d6’s resulting Roll is a 1, that is considered a Critical Failure. Critical Failures do not have any inherent effect, but may determine additional effects based on the associated skill or trait that may call for their consideration. ADVANTAGE AND DISADVANTAGE: If a Roll has advantage, it will be made with one(1) additional d6. If a Roll has Disadvantage, it will be made with one(1) fewer d6. If Disadvantage would result in zero(0) d6s, the Roll automatically fails and is considered a Critical Failure. There are cases where multiple instances of Advantage or Disadvantage are given, in which case additional d6s are added or removed from the resulting Roll. ENCOUNTERS: During the story, there will be various obstacles in the player’s way, stopping from their objective. These are called Encounters. During Encounters, the Player and GM will Roll 1d6 to determine who will act first. Once the Encounter begins, the Player and GM (who will be in control of the obstacle of the Encounter) will take turns. The Player Character can perform 2 Actions on each of their turns. There are three types: Combat, Social, and Task. Each one requires the player to gain a certain amount of progress by using their actions and skills to defeat it. The difficulty of the Encounter is variable and determined by the difficulty of the Encounter. If the required amount of progress is met, the encounter is defeated, and the player achieves a positive outcome from it - be it killing a horrible villain, convincing a stubborn judge, or building a sturdy house up to code. Each type of Encounter also comes with a resource that, when depleated, will mean the player has failed. For Combat Encounters, this is Health, which by default always starts at 6, and will only deplete when the enemy makes a successful attack of some kind against the player. For Social and Task Encounters, it is Patience and Time respectively, both of which will always deplete by 1 at the end of every turn. Various skills can increase each resource during an Encounter when used by the player, but none can exceed the maximum amount of 6 unless specified otherwise by a trait such as Heavily Armored. Should any of the respective resource of the encounter be depleted completely, the player will fail, resulting in a negative outcome. The stubborn judge is onconvineced and will proceed with their verdict. The house either crumbles to pieces mid-build, or soon after due to shoddy craftsmanship. In combat encounters, Health falling to zero does not necessarily spell death for the player character unless the player and GM deem it a suitable means of progressing the story. CHARACTER CREATION: The Player’s Character will consist of 4 elements: Resources, Attributes, Traits, and Skills. RESOURCES: Stamina and Energy are used in all Encounters. Stamina is used for basic actions, and Energy is used to perform Skills. ATTRIBUTES: The Player Character’s capabilities in various aspects of the world. These are Strength, Dexterity, Intelligence, Charisma, and Focus. TRAITS: Special features that further customize and personalize the Player Character to fill a theme, role, or fantasy. The Player will choose 3 Traits during Character Creation. SKILLS: Special actions that the Player Character can perform during an Ecnounter, typically costing some amount of Energy to do. RESOURCE STAT DISTRIBUTION: 7 points to spend between Energy and Stamina. Both reset to their default amount at the start of an encounter ATTRIBUTE DISTRIBUTION: Pick 1 Attributes to have 3 points, 2 Attributes to have 2 points, and 2 Attributes to have 1 point. Each point determines how many d6s to roll when using that stat. (there is also a few example traits, but there are far too many characters than would fit into alt text, sorry) COMBAT ENCOUNTER When conflict arises, sometimes the Player Character will get into a Combat Encounter. During a Combat Encounter, the PC will face off against an Enemy. The Enemy can be anything from a hoard of goblins, to a singular giant killer robot. the PC will be a certain distance against the Enemy: Close, Near, or Far. Certain skills and attacks require the PC to be at a certain range in order to function optimally, and the PC can use the Move action to adjust their distance accordingly. The PC will also have a Weapon that can be used to perform Attacks, as well as be the basis of certain Skills.

It occurs to me, after reading posts getting it spectacularly wrong, that there are a lot of misconceptions over how game studios organize and, in particular, who makes the actual decisions about what ends up in your game. Much of it is by folks who don't *try* to get it... but not all, surely. 1/🧵

I've told this story before, but when we were working on Deadfire a guy asked if we were going to have sorcerers. I was confused because our wizards kinda work like D&D sorcerers. After some back and forth he said, "I just want my sheet to say sorcerer," and that's why the hybrid class names exist.
