Current dissociation: Strength of the Few (audio)

Playing: Hollow Knight (not Silksong) & Cyberpunk

Non-school reads: Locklands

Two assignments down, one to go.
This week’s #showmeyourknits is spotlighting indie dyers and designers. I frequently use indie yarns but honestly have no idea what a non-indie designer is.

Current WIP. Yarn is Hespa lopi purchased from the dyer in her shop in Iceland. The pattern is by Irish designer Ailbíona McLochlainn.

My teen got their wisdom teeth pulled yesterday. And just noticing how very childlike even older teens become when they’re in distress or suffering. It’s impossible to miss.

Just thought I’d share. For no particular reason.

I’m working on an ethics paper for psych school and doing some research on how values impact behavior. Kind of amazed at how predictable maga attitudes are. And also, researchers have known for over a decade that people of high socio-econ status tend to act unethically. 1/

Some of us also took Econ in undergrad… calling BS

This assumes there was any economic rational for the tariffs in the first place. Himself is already cancelling them if you give him gold bars.

Amidst all the chaos, this admin wants to strip nursing of its professional degree status, which would prevent people from taking out loans to go to nursing school. Obv this means fewer nurses.

It's like they're deliberately asking themselves: how can we make life even worse for people?
Statement from the American Nurses Association on Proposed Federal Loan Policy Changes
Excluding nursing from professional degree classification jeopardizes efforts to strengthen and expand the U.S. nursing workforce

After many starts and stops, my sweater is finally done. The pattern is Sibeal by Isabell Kraemer. Salmon colored yarn is McMullin Fiber Co Posh Sock. Blue is Miss Babs Caroline. Both are merino/cashmere and are super soft.

@xtiandc.bsky.social remember when the internet used to go down all the time and we could knock off for a couple of hours?

#knitsky what is “knitting elastic?”

A pattern is suggesting that I can sew knitting elastic into a folded-over ribbed neck to help it maintain shape. A search for such elastic didn’t help so wondering if this is a translation error. OG pattern is in Danish.

Also, how does one do this sewing?

#knitsky I kinda want to knit an Apple Pocket knock off for my dad for Xmas bc he thinks they’re so ridiculous.

Thinking it’s be pretty simple to approximate for the yuks but very stretchy.

For this week’s floofy #showmeyourknits : a slow burn scarf project I work on when I don’t have anything else on the needles. Miss Babs Moonglow mohair/silk blend.

Plus the sweater with the Moonglow held with the Miss Babs K2 (chunky merino)

Who knew I was so floofy.

Really excited to finally use this lettlopi I bought at the Hespa workshop outside Reykjavik last April. I loooooooove the rustic feel of it and adore the hand dyed colors.

Sadly, we have a moth situation elsewhere in the house so freezing it for a few days before I can cast on.

Like it's not enough to be disappearing people... he has to make every aspect of life suck. But oh no... prices aren't going up. 🖕🖕
Italian pasta exports to the U.S. could be 'virtually wiped out' by proposed 107% tariffs
The U.S. has hit 13 Italian pasta exporters with an anti-dumping tariff of 92%, which would be added to the Trump administration's 15% blanket E.U. levies.

All this. I got fired from Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Store (NoLa, 1993) bc I wasn’t perky *enough*. Not unfriendly, just not over the top. With mostly drunk customers who couldn’t tell the difference. Meanwhile, boss lady was very prim and never smiled. Uh ok.

I know how to fold T-shirts tho.
There is something really wrong with people who need workers to be not just competent, but slavishly fake-happy. "Slavishly" used on purpose, bc that's where this grotesquerie comes from.
"Store employees are now required to smile if they are within 10 feet of a shopper.

They also must make eye contact with and wave to or greet the customer.

If they’re within four feet, the employee should ask how the customer’s day is going or if they need help."

🙄 Won't stop the boycott, y'all.

Given the state of things in the us right now, I think I’m up for at least trying the #pluribus virus.
November 8, 2025 at 1:30 PM
What I’m happiest about #pluribus is that it doesn’t appear to be a puzzle box show.

Instead, let’s just see a how regular person handles a **really** messed up situation.

To have Carol get gaslit by Mike Johnson - I mean Taffler - via cable news was brilliant.

We fine. Prices are fine.

Looks to me like when he’s not the center of attention, he goes into standby mode. Like no one programmed any concern for anyone else in his circuitry.
When you're a sociopath and get angry that someone else's medical emergency, just four feet away, drew focus from your gloating and you forget which lie you were on.

Maybe after Tuesday's results, we can get real net metering in VA.

The panels on our house produce more than we use. And yet, we pay Dominion a min of $9/month in what is basically an accounting fee. And they don't pay us for the surplus energy our panels produce.
Australia has so much electricity from solar power that it is going to start offering free electricity to everyone for at least three hours during the day as the wholesale price of power goes negative

Youngkin so “successful” that all the major school districts told him to fuck himself and his anti trans unenforceable policies.

His greatest achievement was galvanizing our disdain for him while we waited out his low consequence single term.

For that, we have the Dem legislature to thank.
Q: A lot of Rs, including the Lt Gov, ran on keeping the good times going. Given the Lt Gov lost by 15, Rs are on track to lose more than a dozen House seats, is it possible Virginians don't see your admin the same way you do?

YOUNGKIN: I believe Virginians thoroughly support what we've been doing
November 5, 2025 at 3:08 PM
Every person who lives in NoVa knows a person like this. They only cross the bridge to go to The Italian Store or DCA but have the craziest takes.

To be clear : Youngkin was never popular. He squeaked a win on anger about school closures during COVID. The Biden/Youngkin voters imm regretted it.

Not that long ago Va was so gerrymandered this would have been unthinkable.

One more sleeve to go plus for some reason I’m not done with the neck.

Still a lil sad that I didn’t have enough of the orange yarn for the sleeves but the contrast sleeves are growing on me. It does look like a layered tshirt when I try it on.
